Clashes Reported Between Syrian Army And Militants In Northern Latakia

Click to see the full-size image

Early on August 1, reports appeared that clashes erupted between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and militants in northern Latakia.

The clashes were reportedly accompanied by intense artillery strikes from the Syrian military. Most intense of them took place near the M4 highway.

Some pro-government media outlets claimed that this was the start of the long-expected SAA advance in the area, but this is unlikely. The Syrian military command still has to re-deploy its elite units from southwestern Syria to the area if it wants to take any kind of large-scale military actions. However, at least a limited military operation by the SAA in northern Latakia could be launched soon.

Recently, top Syrian officials have made a series of statements pointing out the province of Idlib as one of the main targets of the upcoming efforts of the SAA. This and the recent liberation of southwestern Syria created conditions for multiple speculations of the “large scale” SAA operation there which is about of being launched.

On the same time, Russian president’s special envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentyev [he’s a chief Russian negotiator in the Astana talks format] said on July 31 that a large-scale operation to storm the city of Idlib is out of the question. Thus, if the operation is even launched soon, it will not have a goal of capturing the city of Idlib.

N Latakia is rough country near Turkish border, SAA should not waste resources there. The Al Ghab plain to the SE looks a bit easier.

Richard M

Remember the DeZ campaign. Once Sukhna was taken the ISIS orcs had to guess which routes through the hills and mountains SAA would take. There were just too many routes for them to try to block. Then SAA was rolling into DeZ City and all the other cities in the Euphrates Valley! Reports are that the HTS Orcs are retreating, just like the East Ghouta Campaign. Once SAA is through the mountains and into the Al Ghab HTS and their Ottoman masters will be on the run all the way to Istanbul!

PZIVJ

I recall Deir Ezzor advance. I spoke early of Mt Bashir route, and somebody on this site somewhat said “lose lips sink ships” So I shut up about it.

Richard M

I really enjoyed those days when one SAA army was advancing from Raqqa and another from Sukhna another in the desert and another advancing along the river valley! The Daesh Orcs were like a man attacked by swarms of killer bees!

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

me too those were good times, late 2017ish :)))

Promitheas Apollonious

the russians seem to disagree, with the syrian army going into idlip.

John Whitehot

wonder if that comes from turkish newspapers.

Promitheas Apollonious

I dont read news papers or follow what mass media says haven’t watch Tv since the era of gun smoke and bonanza.

Mustafa Mehmet

or all the way to Damascos

Rob

War is not the solution of any problem. War between Muslims make laugh enemies that have travelled from thousands of miles. Assad has never taken land of Turkey or has never attacked Turkey but Turkey Erdogan does.

Mustafa Mehmet

rob. I never agree with erdogan policy never will I know Syrian people deserve better. we have to find peaceful solution will work with our neighbors.

Rob

All Muslims are one nation whether they are rich or poor, white or darker, Asian or Africa or European or American. I don’t wanna see fight in between them. Wars cannot improve their wealth, life or condition.

SurfshackTito (TheSecular)

Before we can think about Idlib. I’d say they take the final pieces of Hama and Latakia Provinces. and how to deal with ISIS cells in the desert.

Promitheas Apollonious

why?

jorge

Yes, no need of the ‘before’ because they can do the two things (the little and the bigger) at the same time, and even more a couple of things.

SurfshackTito (TheSecular)

I’m a little worried about the turks.

Promitheas Apollonious

what is to be worried, either they win or have their ass kicked, or do what the russians will suggest to them, but that solution I see it very pale. What I am sure about, is Syrians have two allies and those are Hezbollah and Iran.

The rest are looking after their own interest.

jorge

To confirm:

palebluedot

Shouldn’t the SAA coordinate Idlib with the SDF?

Ronald

If the SDF drop their allegiance to the US and become members of the SAA.

palebluedot

That would be icing on this year’s victory cake.

Ronald

Well after Idlib, if the SDF and the Kurds have not come to terms with the Syrian government, they will be next years victory cake.

jorge

Months.

Doom Sternz

The Syrian Democratic Forces or the Democratic Forces of Syria? Splitters…..Monty Python script if ever i saw one..

Promitheas Apollonious

have the russians ask the Syrians what they think, or now that their turkish pets are going to be under attack, will shift sides?

John Whitehot

the Astana meeting has published the following 3 things agreed between Russia Turkey and Iran:

ISIS and their friends will be destroyed.

Nusra and their friends will be destroyed.

Syrian territorial integrity must be protected.

the SAA is hence free to destroy Nusra in Idlib and liberate its territory as it sees fit, and will probably start doing it as soon as it’s ready.

Promitheas Apollonious

they decide with out the Syrians.

John Whitehot

who decides with the Syrians?

Israel?

The US? Saudia?

Astana isn’t meant to decide in place of the Syrian people on the course of their country, it’s meant to make the above possible by finding ways to establish peace.

Promitheas Apollonious

k either you thick or pretend you did not understand what I say, which I find it very unlikely. Was talking of the Astana agreements what ever the f*ck they call it.

Mustafa Mehmet

Syrian can’t say a words. Russia is the boss . re Yanni let panda force attack Turkish army. we will go All the way to Damascos

Promitheas Apollonious

you can try yes. try and lets see what happens.

jorge

I wonder why a turk write Damascus with an o (Damascos).

Mustafa Mehmet

spelling wrong.damascus. we call Şam

jorge

Okay, try to make peace with Şam, and then go there all the way as tourists, it’s a nice city to visit, as, for example, Constantinople, pardon, Istambul.

Mustafa Mehmet

Hopefully one day ..İSTANBUL(not with m )but ok

Merijn

DAESH…Run…Run…But you cannot Hide….Cave in the Trenches…Bury them Headchoppers in their Hide-Outs…

jorge

Daesh are now hunting preys in Syria, by the way, second Anaximander, has it’s just and necessary:

https://www.beyng.com/grk/anax1.html

Redadmiral

Big contradiction in final paragraph between second and final sentence. That aside we are now witnessing the Bitter Sweet Victory of the SAA and it’s allies over the Yanki Zionist murdering scam acting on behalf of the Satanic.

Cedric Hunter

The militants are desperate. Throwing themselves against the hard points of the SAA out of some sense of outrage is foolish to the extreme.
