On September 28, Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid Muallem confirmed that the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF) will receive S-300 long-range air defense systems in the near future and revealed that Damascus is looking to acquire the more advanced S-400 Triumf, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.
“According to [Russian] Defense Minister [Sergei] Shoigu, we will receive them [S-300 systems] within two weeks,” Muallem told reporters after a meeting with his Russian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. “we are also hoping to acquire the S-400,” he added.
Earlier this week, Russia announced that it will supply S-300 systems to the SyAADF in response to the Il-20 incident triggered by Israeli actions according to Moscow.
Russian sources say hat two to four sets of the S-300 systems will be supplied to Syria as for now.
The S-400 is a newer and much more advanced than the S-300. The system can hit targets in the range of 400km and has additional anti-ballistic missile capabilities. Currently, Russia is supplying the S-400 to China, Turkey and possibly [the deal has not been signed officially] to India.
They should get it to protect their war-torn country.
If the rules of engagement are going to change to expand the no fly zone from west of the river and over the sea to include Israel and Lebanon also. The S-400 would be a big help. Being able to shut down IAF attacks would go a long way to getting the US to withdraw. And would make the Turks a lot more comfortable with cooperating with the Syrian government.
Changing the balance so that most of the dead from air attacks are Jews rather than Syrians. Is going to mobilize US public opinion against an escalated military adventure in Syria. It’s also going to dissuade the Israeli public and government from getting involved in any ground invasion. Knowing that it won’t have air cover and will result in a lot of death and destruction to the IDF and Israeli domestic infrastructure.

It isn’t necessary to wallow in the pig sty with the swine who do that to be effective. There are plenty of legitimate targets within international law that will get the job done without sullying one’s reputation. There are missiles that the iron dome and similar systems won’t stop that can destroy military aircraft sitting at or flying over Ben Gurion and other IAF facilities with the same precision as what the Jews are attacking Syria with. So they would have nothing to complain about. Any IAF target attacking Syria is fair game. If it comes down in some farmer’s field or downtown Tel Aviv. I read a lot of comments which say ‘Russia should give Syria’ some specified weapons system. I don’t think Russia should ‘give’ anything. On the other hand I think they should sell Syria any and all equipment that is available for export. I see no reason why there should be any limitation on Russia selling any of its weapons to a friendly foreign power.
