On December 18, another convoy of the US-led coalition was intercepted by Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers in Syria’s northeastern region.
The convoy, which consisted of five armored vehicles, was attempting to pass through the town of Tell Tamer in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah when it was confronted by SAA soldiers. The soldiers blocked the road, forcing the convoy to retreat.
The stat-run Syrian Arab News Agency released photos of the confrontation, which was the fifth to take place in the northern al-Hasakah countryside this week.

On December 14, SAA soldiers intercepted a US-led coalition convoy on Tell al-Dahab checkpoint. On December 16, government supporters intercepted another convoy near the town of al-Damkhyah. On December 17, soldiers and government supporters intercepted two other convoys near the villages of Tell al-Dahab and al-Salihiyah.
The SAA and government supporters are clearly trying to restrict the movement of US-led coalition forces in the northern al-Hasakah countryside.
Following the 2018 Turkish invasion of northeastern Syria, the US-led coalition withdrew its forces from Aleppo and Raqqa. Now, the coalition is only present in Deir Ezzor and al-Hasakah where its forces occupy all main oil and gas fields.

They need to dig ditches alongside the road so they don’t have enough room to turn around and have to back up until they can. They already know where the checkpoints are and how far they can go. Just playing games.

Good call. They clearly seem to be willing to up the ante and increase the time, investment, and cost of the Americans’ every movement. And the trend will only become stronger as Russia consolidates its own presence literally all around every pocket of US occupation forces and namely the all-important Qamishli airbase. The question is : how long will that cat & mouse game last until the US finally acknowledges that the harassment strategy will not work and Russia has cleared useful Syria ? Keeping the oil & gas and painstackingly sell it to Iraqi Kurds by small bits can only last for so long, the Syrian economy would certainly get a boost from it but was not predominantly dependent on that until the GCC …. it can rebuild with loans from China, and manpower and Know-how from Russia and Iran, not to mention Beijing itself.
USA can fight back too. They do have the equipment for it.
Sure they can … they could nuke the country and use it as a parking lot if they wanted to. The question is would that be a smart move by the USA.
Riling up the locals when you have a long supply train running through Iraq means spending money that isn’t budgeted for. More air missions, more armoured vehicles, more helos operating in the desert sands cost money and wear and tear on equipment. Having to deploy more troops when the USA is already overstretched and is picking fights with Russia and China at the same time as fighting a pandemic is both a political risk and bad for moral.
If anything the USA wants to disengage from the region and redeploy for the fight against Russia and China. They’ve already slapped Israel twice and denied them air tankers for wanting to strike Iran.
It’s very difficult and expensive to deploy forces across the world. There’s a supply line to every base that has to be guarded … the USA will be wanting to shorten those lines and free up the assets that guard them.
Frankly the general consensus is ‘divide and conquer’ yet the USA is challenging Iran, Russia and China all at once and they are pushing them into an alliance through sanctions and bullying.
What are they looking for in another country ???? / What would it be like for the Syrian army to go around the United States?
