Late on June 8, an explosion rocked the district of Karam al-Looz in the southern part of the central Syrian city of Homs.

The explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) that was planted near a bus stop in the heavily populated district. At least eight civilians were wounded as a result of the explosion, which damaged a mini bus.

“At around 09:30 in the evening, a terrorist explosion with an explosive device took place in the Karm al-Looz district, which is inhabited by displaced civilians from Raqqa and al-Sukhnah. Eight citizens, including children and women, were injured,” Homs Governor Bassam Mamdouh Parsik told the Syrian Arab News Agency.

According to the governor, one of the wounded, a child, is currently in a critical condition. All the wounded are being treated in al-Basel Hospital in Karam al-Looz.

No group has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack, yet. In the last two years, the Syrian intelligence and security forces foiled several attacks in Homs city. In 2019, an attack with remotely-controlled IEDs and another with a booby-trapped car were thwarted.

A few hours after the terrorist attack, a series of Israeli strikes hit military targets near Homs city as well as in the Syrian capital Damascus.
