Erdogan blackmailed the EU for €30 Bln over refugee crisis

A leaked document published in a Greek website Euro2day revealed that during a meeting took place in Antalya on November 14, 2015, with President of the European Council Donald Tusk and European Commission Chairman Jean-Claude Juncker, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan demanded €30 billion from Brussels to resolve the European migrant crisis.

Euro2day said that Erdogan threatened to send migrants to Europe if the EU refuses to give him money.

Though, a plan on providing €3 billion to Ankara in exchange for assistance in resolving the migrant issue had been agreed by the EU but the deal could not make Erdogan happy.

According to Euro2day, Erdogan threatened that if the EU delayed Turkey’s admission to the bloc, he would take measures. Erdogan said that Turkey would put refugees on buses to Europe and the consequences for Europe would be “more than a dead boy” on the Turkish shores.

Earlier, Erdogan agreed to receive the €3 billion in two years, now he is refusing the deal. The leaked documents said that Erdogan wanted a €3 billion a year otherwise refugees would enter into Europe.

The leaked document also shows that the EU Council of Ministers delayed its progress report on Turkey’s accession to the EU with the purpose to help Erdogan to win the elections.

The document also read that Erdogan was arrogant and hasty and the negotiations ended with no result. Erdogan also claimed that Greece received €400 billion from Brussels during financial crisis, so he should ask more money from the EU since Turkey spent €8 billion on refugee camps, according to his claim.

“Erdogan asks rhetorically: ‘So how will you deal with refugees if you don’t get a deal? Kill the refugees?’,” according to the revealed document.

However, the article read that this incident exposing Turkey’s position has not been reported to country members of the bloc.
