An explosion that rocked the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on January 10 was the result of a failed missile launch by the Houthis (Ansar Allah), according to Al Arabiya.
The Saudi-owned news channel said that the explosion happened when the Houthis, Iran’s main allies in Yemen, attempted to launch a “ballistic missile” from the al-Hafa military camp, which is located in the southeastern outskirts of Sanaa.
“The explosion caused a state of panic and terror for the women and children living in the neighborhoods adjacent to al-Hafa camp,” the channel quoted local sources in the city as saying.
The alleged missile explosion caused some heavy material losses at al-Hafa camp. Nevertheless, no casualties were reported.
The Houthis, who have been in control of Sanaa for more than eight years now, are yet to address the claims made by Al Arabiya.
The Saudi-led coalition accused the Houthis of assembling and storing advanced weapons, like ballistic missiles, suicide drones and air defense systems, in Sanaa and its outskirts on countless occasions in the past. In some cases, the coalition actually presented an evidence to back its accusations.
The explosion in Sanaa came amid relative calm in Yemen. Despite the lack of any progress in the settlement process, both the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis have not launched any large-scale attack since the end of the UN-sponsored ceasefire in October of last year.
