Explosion Rocks Busy Market In SDF-Held Northeast Syria (Video)

On April 2 morning, an explosion rocked a busy market in the town of al-Busayrah in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Right (SOHR), the explosion was caused by a booby-trapped motorcycle, which was parked by unknown operatives to target a vehicle of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The motorcycle prematurely exploded, missing its target. The explosion, however, injured two civilians, a woman and a child.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, so far. However, ISIS remains the main suspect. The group’s cells are known to be highly-active in northeast Syria.

Last week, ISIS cells abducted and beheaded two fighters of the SDF in the southern al-Hasakah countryside. The SDF and the U.S.-led coalition responded by launching a large-scale combing operation in the region.

The SDF and the U.S.-led coalition are intensifying their operations against ISIS remnants in northeast Syria. However, the terrorist group’s influence is still on the rise.
