A prominent Syrian terrorist known as Abu Yarub al-Ithri was killed while he was fighting for the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Libya.
Libyan sources confirmed on June 12 that al-Ithri was killed in an airstrike by the Libyan Air Force on the outskirt of the coastal town of Sirte. The terrorist was taking part in the ongoing GNA attack on the town.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed that al-Ithri, whose real name is “Samir al-Atrash,” was a former field commander of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
According to the SOHR’s director, Rami Abdulrahman, al-Ithri was fired from HTS for corruption and moral issues. The terrorist fled to Turkish-occupied Afrin, where he joined the so-called Syrian National Army. From there he was enlisted to fight in Libya.
A total of 390 Turkish-backed Syrian militants have been killed fighting in Libya so far. Despite these losses, Turkey is still working to send more militants to the war-torn country.
