The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on July 5 that its forces carried out more strikes against the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen over the past days.
In a statement, the command said that the strikes destroyed two Houthi uncrewed surface vessels (USV) in the Red Sea and one radar site in an area controlled by the group in Yemen.
“It was determined the USVs and radar site presented an imminent threat to U.S. and coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region,” CENTCOM said. “These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure.
Yemen’s Al-Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthis, reported three “American-British strikes” on the western province of al-Hodeidah.
The strikes hit the northwestern district of Alluhayah and the southern district of Bayt al-Faqih in the province, according to the news channel, which didn’t provide any details on the losses.
The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea since November in response to the Israeli war and siege on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.
In addition, the group launched dozens of drones and missiles at the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat and shot down six American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.
The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January in response to the group’s attack. The strikes killed some 40 people, including civilians, and wounded more than 126 others. However, they failed to deter the Houthis or even to degrade their military capabilities.
