Fighters from Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions killed another Israeli soldier in Gaza City, and came too close to shooting down an attack helicopter.
The death of the soldier, a Staff Sergeant from the Nahal Brigade’s 932nd Battalion, was acknowledged by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on September 25. According to an initial probe by the military, the soldier was manning a guard post at an army encampment when he came under sniper fire a day earlier.
The death of the soldier brought the IDF’s toll in its major offensive in Gaza City to two, while Israel’s total toll in the war in the Strip and along its border stands at 471.
The first casualty, an officer, was killed when Hamas blew up a Merkava Mk 4M of the 77th Battalion in Gaza City’s Tel al-Hawa neighborhood on September 22. The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, has released footage of the attack on the tank, which was targeted with a rocket-propelled grenade.
Currently, three divisions of the IDF, the 162nd, 98th and 36th, are operating in Gaza City in the framework of the major offensive against Hamas, codenamed “Operation Gideon’s Chariots B”.
The IDF has not yet shared any details about its advance in Gaza City, but it said that more than half of one million Palestinians who were taking shelter there had left.
Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions have begun to put on resistance. On September 25, Al-Jazeera aired footage showing what appears to be an attempt to shoot down an Israeli AH-64 Apache attack helicopter with a man-portable air defense system. The missile nearly hit the helicopter, which deployed flares and maneuvered.
Later, the IDF said that the anti-aircraft missile failed and the “helicopter continued its mission of assisting the combat troops in the area.”
Palestinian fighters are not attempting to actually defend Gaza City, but rather trying to slow down the offensive and inflict as much losses on the IDF as possible before withdrawing. Unless a ceasefire-hostage agreement is reached, the city will likely fall within weeks, or a few months.
It’s worth noting that the Israeli offensive in the city has already claimed the lives of close to 500 people, with more than 1,000 others wounded.

surprisingly, given all the circumstances, hamas have adopted an ethical and chivalrous policy of not firing on zionist helicopters carrying out medical evacuations of the many wounded kiddie killers taken out by hamas in gaza. they allow these evacuations to proceed unmolested, though in many cases they could have destroyed the helicopters. this has been a policy of hamas based on islamic principles since the start of the genocide.
