German defense company Hensoldt announced on May 3 that it will supply Ukraine with six more TRML-4D radars by the end of the year.
The new radars are part of an order package worth over 100 million euros [$107 million], the company said in a statement, without clarifying where the money is actually coming from.
“Our radars are urgently needed by Ukrainian air defense, and we are proud to be able to deliver all the systems this year,” CEO of Hensoldt Oliver Dörre said. “The feedback from our customers confirms how important the rapid availability of the radars is for the protection of their citizens.”
The TRML-4D is a surveillance and target acquisition active electronically scanned array radar with a maximum range of 250 kilometers and the ability to track up to 1,500 targets at the same time. The radar can also differentiate various types of air targets, focusing on high-speed and low-flying cruise missiles, as well as fighter jets and helicopters.
The radar first entered service with Kiev forces in 2022 as a part of the German-made IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense system. Since then, several radars of this type have been destroyed by the Russian military.
The Kiev regime has for months now been asking for more air defense to bolster Ukrainian air defenses in the face of increasing Russian drone and missile attacks.
In April, Germany said that it will soon provide Ukraine with one more American-made MIM-104 Patriot long-range system as well as an additional IRIS-T SLM system. And earlier this week, media reports revealed that Italy is planning to supply an Italian-French-made SAMP/T medium-range air defense system.
These radars and air defense systems will not improve Ukrainian air defenses simply because the country is very large and the Russian military is very capable.
