In the late hours of June 22, forces loyal to the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) launched a surprise large-scale attack on Tripoli International Airport, which was captured by the Libyan National Army (LNA) last April.
Few hours after the beginning of the attack, Mustafa al-Majai, a spokesman for GNA forces, told the Anadolu Agency that government forces had successfully stormed the airport from three directions.
However, the LNA denied these claims and revealed that its units were able to ambush GNA forces in the outskirt of the airport, which is located south of the country’s capital.
“Military units in the armed forces conducted a tightly ambush near Tripoli airport, in which a number of personnel of the militia’s gatherings were killed, and those who remained alive runaway leaving their vehicles and ammunition,” the LNA’s media office said in a short press release.
Despite heavy loses, the GNA’s attack on the airport is still ongoing. Heavy clashes are reportedly still taking place around the airport. Furthermore, several airstrikes targeted LNA units there.
In the last few weeks, the GNA received loads of weapons and military equipment from Turkey, which explains how it managed to launch such a large-scale attack.
So this report tells is nothing with just each side asserting it is the winner and holds the ground.
Yes, whatever they are named its skirmishes.
