Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and several other armed groups in northern Syria are currently planning to launch a large scale offensive on the besieged towns of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya in the eastern Idlib countryside, the Syrian news outlet Enab Baladi reported on July 14.
A source familiar with the situation told the pro-opposition outlet that the aim of the offensive is to force National Defense Forces (NDF) fighters and civilians inside the two towns to accept an evacuation agreement.
Local sources said that reconnaissance plans of the Russian Aerospace Forces are flying over al-Fu’ah and Kafriya around the hour. This indicates that Russia and its allies are well aware of HTS’ plans.
Thousands of civilians, including women and children, have been besieged inside the town towns since March of 2015. Over the last three years, the local NDF has managed to repel several attacks of HTS and its allies on the towns and killed dozens of militants.
Any new attack of HTS and its allies on al-Fu’ah and Kafriya will be a major violation of the de-escalation agreement in northern Syria. This may force the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies to resume their military operations in the governorate of Idlib.

The jihadists having lost big time in Daara, wish to push the SAA into a rescue operation of the two Christian enclaves. In the previous evacuation agreement the Qaeda killed over a hundred children, doubt they will trust Qaeda again.

If you go to the bottom of the comments, you will see Garga’s comment reminding us how the Wahhabi jihadists lured women and children onto the bus, and then blew the bus killing over a hundred of them.
Can you imagine what a shitshow this would be without Russia active in Syria, The people of the region owe them a lot without Russian help terrorists and their backers would be running the show. And by the way I am a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces PPCLI.
Russia only provides better air support and many more allies have as much to do with Syria and it’s advances. Hezbollah , PLA and SSNP militias along with Syrian 5th corps fought in the Eastern desert near Palmyra. Seems you forget these so called “rebels” were trained in Jordan and other Gulf states as they were recruited and vetted by the west as moderates. Many of them forced locals to join and raped their wives and daughters and many fled back home. Do you know Syria has to pass a special law for these illegitimate bastards. That is the price these locals in Daraa paid to help the west in their illegal actions in Syria.
The backers started running out of money in 2013 and again in 2016 seems you know only a small piece of what was going on. This War was never sustainable in the long run anyways relied on Assad capitulating early on and that never happened. What you learn in the Army is SNAFUs going FUBAR happen all the time.
If the press knows about the plan, then there is a problem with it. HTS could do something unexpected to try and catch the NDF off guard or they could sit there and let their enemy waste time. Or the HTS might have leaked that intentionally, or some local in the NDF wants more attention paid to his sector so he exaggerated his report.
