On March 1, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) fighters recaptured the towns and villages of Maarrat Misrin, Kafrehmul, Maaret al-Naasan, Tall Sandal, Ram Hamdan and Zardana in northern and northeastern Idlib from the Syria’s Liberation Front (SLF), according to the HTS-linked news agency Iba’a. HTS fighters reportedly captured three tanks, two BMP-1 vehicles and three vehicles armed with 23mm guns from the SLF.
HTS launched an attack in northern Idlib to recapture the strategic Atme crossing on the Syrian-Turkish border on February 28.
Meanwhile, pro-HTS sources reported that HTS launched a new attack on the SLF in western Aleppo. A heavy VBIED of HTS targeted a key position of the SLF during the first hours of the attack, according to the sources.
Iba’a confirmed that HTS fighters had advanced in western Aleppo and recaptured the villages of Turmanin, al-Suma, Taladah, Kafr Halab, Ketyan, Mizanaz, Sheikh Ali and al-Tawameh. HTS fighters captured several SLF fighters and a vehicle armed with a 23mm gun, according to Iba’a.
The HTS attacks, which took place on February 28 and March 1, confirm that the terrorist group is still strong enough to combat their competitors in Idlib. On the other side, the SLF has failed to achieve any of its key goals [like establishing control over Idlib city] and has lost a lot of equipment and fighters so far.
