Hezbollah has destroyed two Technical High Mobility Shelters (THMS) of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in southern Lebanon using first-person view (FPV) suicide drones.

The THMS was developed by Israel’s Elbit Systems to provide secure mobile communication for field command and control. The system can be installed on a wide range of tracked and wheeled platforms. It was especially designed for rapid-deployment.

The first system was targeted atop Al-Awida Hill near the town of Taybeh, currently occupied by the IDF, on April 10. It was identified by Hezbollah as an electronic warfare system by mistake.

The second system was targeted inside Taybeh just two days later. This one was installed on an American-made Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT).

The configuration of both systems suggest that they were equipped with the GRX-8000, a fifth-generation, high-capacity line-of-sight radio relay system also designed by Elbit Systems.

The radio delivers data speeds up to 200 Mbps within 100 kilometers range, completed with advanced anti-jamming frequency hopping to ensure stability in contested environments. It also supports flexible point-to-multipoint connectivity, bridging the gap between headquarters and field units using both modern IP and legacy protocols.

The destruction of the two systems was not just a material loss for the IDF, it likely affected its operations in southern Lebanon for a good while.

The ability to detect and target such high-value systems indicate that Hezbollah is growing more competent in the use of FPV suicide drones.

Since the start of the ongoing confrontation in Lebanon as a result of the war on Iran, Hezbollah has been documented using drones guided via frequency radio linked, and others equipped with fiber-optic capables, which are very much immune to electronic warfare.

FPV drones provided a life line for Hezbollah, which lost all its supply routes through Syria with the fall of the regime of former president, Bashar al-Assad, more than a year ago. Such drones are not just easier to acquire, but also very cheap and highly-effective.
