On January 21, Hezbollah fired rockets from southern Lebanon at an Israeli settlement and several sites of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
The group said in three separate statements that its fighters fired a Burkan heavy rocket at the Hadab al-Bustan site and shelled the Pranit barracks and Ruwaisat al-Qarn site. In another statement, it announced the destruction of a building in the settlement of Avivim with rockets.
The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, Hezbollah noted in its statements.
In response to the attacks, the IDF carried out two waves of airstrikes against targets of Hezbollah near the town of Markaba in southern Lebanon. The targets included a military building, observation posts, rocket launch positions and other infrastructure belonging to the group, the IDF said in a statement.
The IDF also announced that it had carried out additional strikes, using tank shelling and aircraft, in other areas of southern Lebanon, hitting a Hezbollah command center and another building used by the group.
In addition, Lebanese media reported an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle near the town of Kafra in southern Lebanon. A fighter of Hezbollah and seven other people, including women, were reportedly killed in the strike.
Hezbollah and its allies began launching attacks against the IDF from southern Lebanon right after the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza more than three months ago.
So far, the clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border have resulted in six civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers. On the Lebanese side, more than 200 have been killed. The toll includes 153 Hezbollah fighters, 14 of whom were killed in Syria, 28 Palestinians, a Lebanese soldier, and at least 24 civilians.
