Hezbollah carried out a series of attacks on April 22 in response to ceasefire violations by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), which included the murder of a journalist in southern Lebanon.

In four separate statements, the group said its fighters targeted an IDF artillery site near the town of Bayadah with a drone, launched two more drones at a Humvee armored vehicle used by Israeli officers and a gathering of Israeli troops near the town of al-Qantara, and shot down four IDF drones over the town of al-Mansouri.

The group cited a number of Israeli ceasefire violations in its statements, including a strike on the town of al-Tiri which mortally wounded Al-Akhbar journalist Amal Khalil. The IDF prevented first-responders from reaching the journalist and other wounded people for hours.

Lebanese media reported that a man was also killed in an Israeli strike on the outskirts of the town of al-Jbour in the eastern Beqaa Valley.

From its side, the IDF confirmed that at least one drone was launched by Hezbollah at its troops, calling the attack a “blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement.”

The military also announced that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) struck and killed two Hezbollah fighters who crossed the ceasefire line in southern Lebanon.

The two fighters were spotted by troops of the 7th Armored Brigade near the Wadi Saluki stream, according to the IDF, which said that the operatives “crossed the forward defense line and approached the troops in a manner that posed an immediate threat.” The IAF then and “eliminated the terrorists to remove the threat,” the military added.

A ten-day ceasefire, announced by United States President Donald Trump, took effect at midnight between April 16 and 17, largely stopping around six weeks of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that spiraled out of the American-Israeli war on Iran.

Lebanon, set to hold a second round of ambassador-level talks with Israel this week, is reported to be pushing to expand the ceasefire for a month. Taking into account recent escalation by both the IDF and Hezbollah, this is unlikely to happen unless the U.S. and Iran reach some agreement.
