Hezbollah launched on August 25 a large-scale rocket and drone attack against Israel in response to the killing of its top commander Fuad Shukr.
An Israeli strike that targeted the suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on July 30 killed Shukr along with an advisor from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and five civilians. More than 80 others were wounded.
As a part of its response, Hezbollah fired more than 320 “Katyusha” rockets at the base of Meron, Neve Ziv, Ga’aton, Za’oura, As-Sahl, Kela, Yoav, Nafah, Yarden, Ein Zeitim and Ramot Naftali, which are located in northern Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The group said that it targeted the bases to “facilitate the passage of drones” towards their desired targets deep inside Israel. “And the drones have passed as planned.”
Multiple blasts and interceptions were reported in northern and central Israel as well as in the Golan amid the attack, with at least one person wounded. Flights in and out of Ben Gurion International Airport were also suspended, while flights that were already en route to Ben Gurion were diverted to other airports.
From its side, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that it launched “pre-emptive” strikes against Lebanon after detecting preparations of Hezbollah attack.
More than a hundred Israeli fighter jets took part in the pre-emptive strikes, according to the IDF, which alleged that “thousands” of Hezbollah rocket launchers in southern Lebanon, some of which were aimed at northern and central Israel, were targeted.
“We have conducted precise strikes in Lebanon in order to thwart an imminent threat against the citizens of Israel,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a statement. “We are closely following developments in Beirut, and we are determined to use all the means at our disposal in order to defend our citizens.”
Lebanese media reported intense Israeli strikes on multiple towns in the country’s south without immediately providing more details. Meanwhile, the Hezbollah-allied Amal Movement mourned one of its fighters.
Responding to the IDF claims, Hezbollah said that its attack was concluded successfully, adding that its leader will reveal the main target of the operation in a speech later on in the day.
“The enemy’s claims about the preemptive action it carried out, the targets it struck and its disruption of the resistance’s attack are empty claims that contradict the facts on the ground, and they will be refuted in a speech by the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, to be determined later today,” a statement released by the group’s Military Media reads.
Israel has been anticipating such a large-scale attack by Hezbollah since the killing of Shukr last month. It is still unclear however if it truly managed to thwart the attack.
Hezbollah and its allies have been launching near-daily attacks against Israel in support of the Hamas Movement and other armed factions in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the war on the Palestinian enclave last October.
So far, the confrontation has resulted in 26 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Golan as well as the deaths of at least 19 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 700 people have been killed, including 408 fighters of Hezbollah and over 130 civilians.

something wrong with these wars against israel. i see fire crackers on one side and 3000 pound bombs on the other side. but if the leaders all know each other from qatar, their children playing together, then i understand.

it’s genocide. all israel wants is to completely eradicate the arabs. they see the rest of humanity as “grasshoppers. they will tell anyone this openly. being a religious minded muslim i believe we are in the end times. this is “the son of the sacrifice” culminating. at least the beginning. those that know the story know what i am saying. sometimes god’s plan is hard for some to understand and internalize. don’t forget god gets what god wants, always god first.
