On August 30, the Houthis shoot down a Chinese-made CH-4 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) of the Saudi-led coalition over the al-Tul border crossing south of the Saudi province of Jizan, according to the Yemeni al-Masirah TV.

The pro-Houthis TV channel said that the UCAV was shot down with a “suitable weapon,” which was not revealed by the Houthis. Al-Masirah added that warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition bombed the UCAV crash site to prevent the Houthis from benefiting from its remnants.

The CH-4 is equipped with an advanced elector-optical targeting system and has a range of up to 5000 km plus a 40-hour endurance. Furthermore, the UCAV can be armed with a variety of guided missiles and bombs.

Last year, the Houthis downed a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper UCAV over the Yemeni capital of Saana. It was revealed later that the Houthis used an air-to-air missile, which had been modified to be launched from the ground, to shoot down the MQ-9.

The Saudi-led coalition has not commented on the recent incident so far. However, coalition warplanes could carry out a series of airstrikes on Houthis’ positions around al-Tul in resnpose.
