On July 22, an armored vehicle of the Syrian General Intelligence Directorate (GID) was struck with an improvised explosive device in the northern Daraa countryside.
According to local sources, the incident took place near a checkpoint of government forces, east of the town of Jasim.

Opposition sources claimed that several GID officers were killed or injured in the attack. However, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that no losses had been confirmed so far.
This was the second attack on Syrian intelligence personnel in Daraa over the past 24 hours. Late on July 21, an explosion in the western part of Daraa city killed two officers of the Military Intelligence Directorate and injured another.
No group has claimed responsibility for eather of these two attacks. ISIS is the main suspect. Nevertheless, other terrorist groups or even foreign agencies, like the Israeli intelligence, may be responsible for these attacks.
The repeated attacks in Daraa take a toll on Syrian government forces and local fighters. Despite this, too little is being done to improve security in the governorate.
