On July 7, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) launched an assault with forces of up to a platoon on Russian positions near the village of Pyatikhatki in the Zaporozhie region. Ukrainian servicemen are seen fastly jumping in Russian trenches facing no resistance, assured that they could easily capture the stronghold without fighting. However, the abandoned trenches turned out to be a trap.
The trenches were mined. As a result, part of the Ukrainian grouping were killed on the spot by mines that were blown up remotely, the remnants who attempted to escape were also shelled by Russian artillery. Three Ukrainian servicemen are seen jumping in the trenches after the mines exploded likely assured that all of them were already blown up but the third of them seen jumping right on another mine that killed him. Two minutes long video confirmed destruction of up to 10 Ukrainian servicemen, more of them were wounded and the operation of the Ukrainian military likely continued bringing more losses to the Ukrainian Army.
Judging by the video, it can be assumed that the attack was carried out by trained Ukrainian servicemen who are seen operating on the battlefield quite appropriately. More and more Ukrainian servicemen captured on the southern Ukrainian frontlines claim that they were trained in NATO countries. However, the training did not help them to achieve any victories.
The video also confirms reports from the front that the Ukrainian command is throwing fighters on Russian defences without any armoured vehicles. Losing hundreds of servicemen a day, Kiev saves expensive Western equipment.
For the first time, the video shared from the Ukrainian front lines showed a tactical maneuver of luring the attacking enemy infantry unit into a trap of mined trenches. The maneuver itself is not new, but rare footage shows its implementation on a battlefield.

its probably not meant as a frontline trench with a field of fire, but more of a communication trench for moving from one place to another, screened by the woodline. they might have other forward positions. clearly there is scope for writing a book on trench arrangement in this war. if you can see the enemy coming by air, you can train artillery on the place where they will naturally seek protection and react out of line of fire.

interesting that they don’t have afv support. i cant beleive they are not using toyota pick ups yet. whilst they are vunerable, they are cheap and the crew have a good chance of exacaping, unlike a expensive troop carriers and support veicles where they are roasted inside. a truck mounts 50 cal and or rpg, rocket, 30mm cannon or what not would proovide a fast approach and good support. cheaper than a leopard.

these are the more elite ukrainian stormtroopers, since they’re the ones attacking to take ground before being replaced by the less trained territorial defense units charged with holding the ground and being cannon fodder of the russian artillery counterstrike.
