The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has tracked and identified a United States aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Aden and the Sea of Oman, the official news agency IRNA reported on November 28.
“The intelligence systems of the Navy of Iran’s IRGC tracked and identified the aircraft carrier through the exchange of information with the army’s naval forces and thanks to their complete dominance over the Strait of Hormuz,” the agency said
Video footage released by IRNA showed the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, along with USS San Jacinto, a Ticonderoga-class cruiser, and two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, USS Stethem and USS Gravely. French Navy Aquitaine-class frigate FS Languedoc was also with the group.
U.S. defense officials said after the release of the video that an Iranian drone “harassed” USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Persian Gulf.
“An Iranian drone flew near the USS Eisenhower in the Persian Gulf today,” Fox News correspondent Liz Friden said. “The Ike was in international waters & the Iranian drone ignored multiple warnings. This is being deemed unsafe & unprofessional.”
The Iranian announcement came just two days after USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and its strike group entered the waters of the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command said that the carrier strike group was deployed to “ensure the safety of navigation” in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was deployed in the Middle East earlier this month in order to support Israel, who is waging a destructive war against the Palestinian Gaza Strip. Iran and its allies have been making efforts to stop the war.
“to ensure the safety of navigation” in international waters? since when is it incumbent on the us to ensure the safety of navigation in any international waters? also the drone was visually watching not attacking so why was that considered harassment? can one imagine if iran had a fleet of war ships in international waters adjacent to the us how the us would react?
it is unsafe and unprofessional to fly close to a carrier launching or landing aircraft i wonder why they did not shoot down the drone.
