On January 21, the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), released video footage documenting a recent ambush that was set up by one of its engineer units and targeted an armored unit of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to the east of Gaza City in the northern Gaza Strip.
The video shows PIJ fighters monitoring the advancing IDF unit, setting up several explosive devices in its path then blowing them up as an armored bulldozer enters the kill zone. The al-Quds Brigades said that several vehicles were destroyed in the ambush and multiple soldiers were killed or wounded. The video does show the remains of at least one vehicle and several weapons left behind by Israeli troops at the scene of the ambush.
One the same day, the al-Quds Brigade released another video showing a EVO Max 4T quadcopter drone that was shot down by PIJ fighters over central Gaza. A day earlier, the group released footage showing one of its snipers targeting an Israeli soldier to the south of Gaza City.
From its side, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Movement that rules Gaza, released on January 21 a video showing the wreckage of an Israeli Skylark reconnaissance drone that was shot down over the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
The group released a day earlier video footage showing its fighters attacking IDF vehicles to the east of Jabalia with rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons.
It’s worth noting that the IDF has lost 195 troops since the start of ground operations in Gaza. More than a thousand others have been reportedly wounded.
The fierce resistance of Hamas, the PIJ and other Palestinian armed factions have forced the IDF to withdraw from several areas in northern Gaza. Nevertheless, intense battles are still taking place in the central and southern parts of the Strip.
