On May 5, the Afrin Liberation Units (ALF) carried out new attacks on Turkish forces in the occupied area of Afrin in northern Aleppo.

The Kurdish group’s fighters targeted fortified positions and a military vehicle of the Turkish military and its proxies in southern Afrin with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). A video of the missile strikes was released by the group.

According to the ALF’s claims, the strikes killed two Turkish soldiers and injured six Syrian militants. These claims are yet to be verified.

The ALF launches its attacks from an area south of Afrin jointly controlled by the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). It remains unclear if these two sides are directly supporting the group.

The Kurdish group’s capabilities grew over the las year. The group began to use advanced weapons like ATGMs, small drones and sniper rifles equipped with thermal sights.
