A massive blast rocked the region of Zhytomyr in the western half of Ukraine on July 2 afternoon, with conflicting reports of the location and the cause.
Initially, the Zhitomir city council alleged that the blast occurred at a gas station, indicating that it was just an accident. But footage from the scene later confirmed that the station in question was barely damaged and the blast was somewhere not too close by.
Ukraine’s National Police later said in an odd statement that it was still trying to verify the location of the blast, which was heard all over Zhytomyr and sent a cloud of smoke tens of meters into the air.
Serhiy Sokalsky, head of the Hlubochytska community, finally suggested the explosion may have actually occurred at a warehouse belonging to an industrial facility near the settlement of Berezyna, some ten kilometers to the east of Zhytomyr city.
With Ukrainian authorities not sharing any credible information about the blast, speculations of a Russian strike or even some act of sabotage began to surface.
The sheer size of the blast suggests that it was possibly caused by either stored ammunition or explosive chemicals used in military industry.
The Kiev regime rarely admits its losses. If this was indeed a strike, the Russian Ministry of Defense could share some details later.
