Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies stepped up their attacks on the government-held part of the northern Hama countryside and shelled several towns with rockets and mortars on June 29 and 30.
Pro-government sources said that the militants’ shelling targeted the towns of Muhradah, al-Aziziyah, Shaykh Hadid and Braideej. The shelling caused heavy material losses, according the sources. However, no one was reportedly injured or killed.
Earlier this week, HTS and its allies repelled a ground attack of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on the villages of Jibeen and Tell Meleh in the same region. The militants’ success may have encouraged them to step up their offensives operations.
The militants’ increasing attacks will likely force the SAA to go on with ground operations in northern Hama. In order to regain superiority, the army will have to reorganize its troops and develop its old tactics.
