The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is carrying out intense artillery strikes on militants’ positions in the southern countryside of Idlib.
Thus far, the strikes have reportedly targeted the towns of Kansafra, al-Bara, Fatterah, Sufuhon and Fleifel. The army is using heavy howitzers and rocket launchers. No losses have yet been reported as a result of the strikes.
The SAA intensified its artillery strikes on southern Idlib following the July 14 suicide bombing. The attack targeted a joint Russian-Turkish patrol on the M4 highway. At least three Russian service members were injured.
The attack on the patrol was not the only provocation that taook place in Greater Idlib over the past 24 hours. The militants also shelled a settlement in northern Lattakia.
Russia and Turkey reached an agreement to stabilize Greater Idlib on March 5. However, the militants there are not respecting the agreement. Some al-Qaeda-affiliated groups are even trying to sabotage it.
If the militants continue their hostile behavior, the agreement may collapse. This would lead to a new military confrontation in Greater Idlib.
