Iran Says Saudi Refinery Was Hit By Israel, Launches More Attacks Across Gulf (Videos)

Despite engaging in a campaign of strikes against neighboring countries, officials in Tehran have denied involvement in the March 2 attack on Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura oil refinery and have instead blamed Israel for an alleged “false flag” operation.

Ras Tanura, which is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf in the east of the kingdom, is Aramco’s largest refinery and one of the world’s key energy facilities. The refinery has a 550,000 barrels per day capacity. It also serves as a vital domestic fuel supplier and major crude export terminal.

Satellite imaging released by Vantor showed ongoing firefighting efforts at two large processing units at the refinery, which was reportedly targeted with drones.

“Iran has announced frankly that it will target all American and Israeli interests, installation, and facilities in the region, and has attacked many of them so far, but Aramco facilities have not been among the targets of Iranian attacks so far,” an Iranian military source told the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Later, U.S. broadcaster Tucker Carlson claimed that Qatar and Saudi Arabia have arrested individuals linked to the Israeli Mossad spy agency, without elaborating.

The attack may have been orchestrated by the Mossad in an attempt to drag Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries into the ongoing American-Israeli attack on Iran.

It’s worth noting that U.S. President Donlad Trump hinted after the attack on Ras Tanura that Arab countries could soon join the war.

“We were surprised,” Trump told CNN, referring to Iran’s attacks against Arab countries. “We told them, ‘We’ve got this,’ and now they want to fight. And they’re aggressively fighting. They were going to be very little involved and now they insist on being involved.”

Another attack targeted Saudi Arabia on March 3. This time, however, the target was the U.S. embassy in the capital, Riyadh.

The embassy was struck by two drones, according to the Saudi Ministry of Defense, which said in a statement that the attack resulted in a “limited fire and minor material damage” to the complex. Smoke was seen rising from the complex in videos posted online.

The embassy to Saudi Arabia had issued a warning for American citizens in Jeddah, Riyadh and the city Dhahran to hide in the shelter and limited non-essential travel to any military installations in the region.

“We recommend American citizens in the Kingdom to shelter in place immediately,” the embassy said in a post on X.

In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned what it called a “treacherous” assault on the U.S. embassy “in the strongest terms”. It also said the kingdom reaffirms its right to take all measures to defend itself and its interests, including the option of responding to any ‌aggression.

The attack on the U.S. embassy marked the beginning of another wave of Iranian attacks on neighboring countries, with interceptions reported in Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said in a press briefing that one of the recent attacks targeted Hamad international airport near the capital, Doha, but failed.

Meanwhile, Oman’s official new agency reported that a fuel tank at the country’s Duqm commercial port was hit by a drone.

Authorities in the UAE also said they had brought a fire under control at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone after debris from a downed drone ignited flames.

All in all, Arab countries are likely on the verge of joining the war on Iran. Even if they launch their own military operation, Israel and the U.S. stand to gain a lot. Israel in particular will be relieved from at least some pressure, as the Islamic Republic will likely focus its attacks on neighboring countries.
