Iran is setting up an offensive air base in Syria, according to satellite imagery analyzed by Israeli media.
The satellite imagery allegedly reveals that an IL-76 warplane that took off from Tehran landed at the Syrian Air Force Base T4 in eastern Syria on November 21st.
The images dated November 21st, 2019, provided by “Intelli Times ” and “Satellite Pleiades from Airbus Defense & Space”, show a large cargo trailer on the runway of the ‘Iran-operated’ T4 military base located in the Homs District in central Syria.

The transport has been reportedly taking place over the last few weeks at the T4 base, “as part of its preparation for an attack the likes seen back in September on the Saudi oil fields,” i24News reported.
The initial unloading was detected on November 19th, according to the reports. That is the same date that Israel intercepted four rockets reportedly launched from Syrian soil towards Israeli territory.
In response, the Israeli military said that on November 20th fighter jets hit multiple targets belonging to Iran’s elite Quds force, including surface-to-air missiles, weapons warehouses and military bases. It said a number of Syrian aerial defense batteries were also destroyed after an air defense missile was fired. These strikes allegedly even hit the “glass house” used by the IRGC at Damascus airport.
Israel reportedly refrained from targeting the T4 base due to its division into three areas controlled by the Russian, Iranian and Syrian army.
Furthermore, Israeli media take advantage of the rumors spread in MSM regarding “fresh intelligence” and other reports of an Iranian threat, despite there being no evidence to back them up. A report by the Wall Street Journal on a possible US deployment to the Middle East was also rejected.
ISI published an assessment on December 4th that noted the Albukamal base is almost complete and it “may allow Iran to transfer equipment, weapons and personnel from Iraq through its new controlled border crossing and directly to fortified storehouses in the new base.”
It noted that the November 20th attacks “were probably part of the IDF’s efforts to prevent a force build-up near the Israeli border. Additionally, to stop Iran from creating a safe and fully controlled corridor from Tehran, through Iraq to its allies in Syria and Lebanon.”
In addition, while Iraq is suffering from protests, Israeli media claims that Tehran is taking advantage of the situation by moving short-range missiles into the country.
It should also be mentioned that Israel is in a political crisis, with no government set up yet and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu under threat of indictment. Thus Tel Aviv urgently needs some sort of national security crisis that would cement Netanyahu’s position and secure his freedom and allow him to remain in power.
