Iran War Left Qatar in Economic Nightmare

Six months into the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, Qatar has emerged as one of the conflict’s largest economic casualties, according to recent reports detailing the fallout of stranded natural gas supplies and steep budget cuts.

A Reuters report published on August 26 reveals that Qatari exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) have plummeted by 96 percent since the onset of the war.

Data from intelligence firm ICIS shows Qatar managed to export just 18 LNG cargoes over the past six months, down from 509 during the same period last year, following attacks on two Qatari tankers and severe shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.

Reuters calculations indicate that Qatar, which previously supplied nearly a fifth of global daily LNG, has lost $24 billion in gas sales — equivalent to roughly five months of national revenue based on 2025 figures. Meanwhile, U.S. LNG exports have surged roughly 25 percent to fill global supply deficits.

The energy market collapse has triggered drastic domestic austerity measures in Qatar, as outlined in a report by the Financial Times from August 22.

The Qatari government has slashed department budgets by up to 30 percent and reduced its international humanitarian aid spending by approximately 85 percent, according to sources cited by FT.

The economic toll follows repeated Iranian missile and drone strikes against Qatar’s massive Ras Laffan energy complex, which disabled 17 percent of the facility’s export capacity and triggered force majeure declarations on state deliveries. Industry experts cited in the report estimate that structural repairs at the complex could take up to five years.

Although Doha maintains a $500 billion sovereign wealth fund buffer, the International Monetary Fund projects Qatar’s output will contract by 8.6 percent this year, marking the steepest economic downturn among all six Gulf states.

The recent reports by Reuters and FT make it clear that the  U.S.-Israeli war on Iran  have placed Qatar in an economic nightmare.

While Doha asserts that it took no active part in the war on Iran, the nation continues to host Al Udeid Air Base, the primary operational command center for American forces in the Middle East, directly facilitating strikes against the Islamic Republic.

For decades, Qatar viewed the massive American military presence as the ultimate security guarantee, spending billions purchasing U.S. weapons. Ultimately, that presence evolved into a primary security threat. Washington failed to protect Qatar and even proved unable to safeguard its own forces across the region.

Despite the failure of this defense framework, Qatar has shown no indication of altering its security posture or moving away from its military reliance on the U.S.

holding iranian pilots isn’t good for relations either…especially if they have been tortured. in fact, if iran finds they have been tortured, it won’t be good for qatar at all. if they had any sense, they would have released them long ago and bought some good will. but stupid is stupid and there is no cure for it except one. qatar does not want that cure.

the fake sheikhs in qatar and dubai are too busy grovelling on their bellies to chump and the jooz. they shower chump and his repulsive family with gold, diamonds and jet aircraft. they haven’t sent a single loaf of bread to gaza. they are pond life, human sewage.

the qatari admin only have themselves to blame. there are repercussions for helping a bully attack an innocent victim. especially if that innocent victim strikes back. if the qatari admin want to take a punch in the face for their bully, that’s their lookout. they backed the wrong horse and are now moaning about it. tough titty.
