Iran warned Israel that it will launch an even larger attack on its territory should it retaliate against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps overnight drone and missile attack, adding that the United States had been warned not to intervene.
“Our response will be much larger than tonight’s military action if Israel retaliates against Iran,” armed forces chief of staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri told Iranian state TV, adding that Tehran warned Washington that any backing of Israeli retaliation would result in U.S. bases being targeted.
IRGC commander, Major General Hossein Salami, also warned Tehran would retaliate against any Israeli attack on its interests, officials or citizens.
The IRGC launched around 300 missiles and drones at Israel over the night of April 13 and 14. The attack, codenamed “Operation Honest Promise,” was a response to the April 1 Israeli strike on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The attack claimed the lives of at least 13 people, including senior commanders from the Guards.
Israel alleged that 99% of the Iranian projectiles were intercepted, yet it admitted damage at Nevatim Air Base. Iranian media reported that a key surveillance base of the IDF located on top of Mount Hermon in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights was also hit. There were no fatalities however.
No decision on an Israeli response to the Iranian attack was taken during the situation assessment in the morning, an Israeli official tells The Times of Israel. The potential response will be discussed at the war cabinet meeting later in the afternoon.
According to media reports, citing senior officials in Washington, U.S. President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US would not aid any Israeli counterattack on Iran. The message was passed during a phone call between the pair.
Axios reported that Biden told Netanyahu the U.S. would oppose any Israeli retaliation, while CNN reported that Biden said that the U.S. would not take part in any such counteraction.
Israel will most likely respond to the attack, even if without direct support from the U.S. However, it could do so by attacking Iran’s allies in the Middle East, like Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen, instead of launching strikes against Iranian territory.

the iranian attack was successful. telegram is full of videos showing missiles and rockets penetrating air defenses. the damage was tenfold in proportion to the consulate bombing on april 1st. iran succeeded in bleeding out defense capability; missile inventory, costing the israeli regime hundreds of millions in missiles and damage. relative to the proportionality intended it was hugely successful as psychological warfare and attritional warfare.
not to mention other intangibles like showing other state actors like kim jong that such an attack on the west is feasible. if the west was to directly confront china or even russia. north korea alone could overwhelm anyone let alone a combined attack with another superpower like china which can send hundreds of thousands of drones and missiles in a single day.
