On May 27, clashes broke out between Iranian troops and Taliban fighters on the Islamic Republic’s border with Afghanistan.
The clashes are reportedly taking place in Makaki area at Kang districts in the southwestern Afghan province of Nimruz. The area shares a border with Zabol, which is located in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
The state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said that Iranian troops inflicted “heavy casualties and serious damage,” stooping short of identifying those it fired at as the Taliban. However, the semi-official Tasnim News Agency confirmed later that fighters of the group were involved.
Videos that surfaced online from the Iranian-Afghan border showed both sides exchanging heavy machine gun fire as well as mortars.
Tensions have been mounting between Tehran and Kabul as a result of a disagreement over the Helmand River. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi earlier this month warned the Taliban not to violate Iran’s water rights to the river.
The Taliban’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with an Iranian envoy to Afghanistan to discuss the Helmand River water rights on May 27 morning. IRNA acknowledged the meeting, saying “that issues between the two countries will be better resolved through dialogue.”
Iranian troops have clashed with the Taliban on multiple occasions since the group took over Afghanistan after the United States withdrawal around two years ago.
MORE ON THIS TOPIC:
the iranians had better be careful how they live with afghans. any war will be a gift for the u.s. and its arab puppets to exploit. the may recognize the afghan government and even arm it. domestic opposition in iran is a minority but very strong. if war breaks out, the mullah regime in iran will collapse.
you dont think the us has already paid the taliban for the war with more to come? good job if the debt ceiling is not raised
not that strong and the iranian regime helped the taliban to be put in power. now they shouldn’t complain. and what arab puppets? many countries are not arab in fact like egypt, morocco or syria.
your nick is an “objective” but you can’t see the picture objectively. only “domestic” opposition in iran is mek, payed and trained by cia and israhellis. they are minority, true, but far from being strong. remember what smartasses like you said in january 2022? “if war between russia and ukraine breaks out, putin’s regime will collapse”. now, it looks likely that nato, eu and us regime will collapse long before putin’s regime.
i am sorry that i have soiled this comment section with my mental excrements. again, i am sorry
dont say the us try the jews
iran and pakistan helped these guys to be put in power and oppress afghans. now don’t complain both of you.
hey, chris, how much are you paied for lying about iran?
hey basement dweller, when did you start basement dwelling?
you must be an moron and idiot, or an ziokhasar puppet troll. anyway, in both cases you spread a big bullshit.
i am telling the truth but you basement dwellers won’t accept it.
now you get it why have americans left so much of the armament to the talibans and, let’s not forget, just before leaving afghanistan, “freed” former taliban intelligence chief from abu ghraib to participate in a new, post-us afghan government. their own manchurian candidate helps to spark a us proxy war against iranians, same as in ukraine.
do you realy think that greedy and cheap anglo-saxons and sabbatean/straussian jews were just generous to leave billions in armament unless they have plans to provoke another war?
that’s correct but the iranian and the pakistani regimes also helped them. qatar and saudi arabia also. so the americans may need them and groups like hts to attack russia and the central asian republics.
indeed, iran should bomb them like hell
don’t fight each other.
fucking terrorists… iran should bomb that godforsaken country to hell..
now we know why the us let all the weapons there.
