In December 2018, Iran announced that it had launched a third of its Mudge-class frigates, the Sahand. The warship does have a flight deck for helicopters, torpedo launchers, anti-aircraft and anti-ship guns, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles and electronic warfare capabilities, according to the state media.
The first two frigates of these class were the Jamaran and the Damavand. In comparison with them, the Sahand has enhanced operational capabilities and size make it twice stronger in terms of offensive and defensive features. According to deputy commander of the Iranian Navy Rear-Admiral Touraj Hassani Moqaddam, the new warship is fitted with the domestically-built Kamand close-in weapon system which can fire anywhere from 4,000 to 7,000 shells per second.
There is a typo or misinformation as the Kamand based on the Americunt Phalanx/Vulcan 20mm is capable of around 4500 rounds per minute or perhaps 70 a second. Otherwise rest of the info is pretty close to accurate. It is a modern heavily armed frigate and three more are being built at Bandar Abbas dry docks.
