On November 2, the Iraqi Federal Police killed 19 fighters of ISIS during a special operation in the village of Qurah Butk southeast of the town of Makhmur in northern Iraq. Local sources said that the operation prevented the terrorists from capturing the village.
“The 11th and 12the Brigades, which are commanded by the head of the 3rd Division, with air support were able to encircle a group of terrorists and eliminate it,” General Raed Shaker Judat, commander of the Iraqi Federal Police, said in a short statement.
In the course of the operation, the Iraqi Federal Police seized seven Ak-47 assault rifles and uncovered a food depot that was being used to supply ISIS cells in the area.
Earlier this week, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported that the terrorist group cells had attacked several houses of fighters of the Iraqi Tribal Popular Mobilization Units (TPMU) south of Makhmur. The attack didn’t result in any casualties.
Makhmur was one of the first areas to be liberated by the Iraqi military and its allies in 2014. However, ISIS cells re-emerged in the area this year, likely due to the weak security measures employed.
