Amaq also reported that ISIS fighters had targeted an armored vehicle of the Iraqi Army, which was on its way to support the military position in al-Izyah, with an IED. Eight Iraqi Army soldiers who were aboard the vehicle were killed and injured in the attack, according to Amaq.

This was the third attack by ISIS cells around Ishaqi this week only. On April 16, a suicide bomber of ISIS targeted the headquarter of the Iraqi Police in Ishaqi killing two Iraqi policemen and injuring two others.

According to local sources, the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) should launch a new security operation around Ishaqi soon in order eliminate the remaining ISIS cells there. Furthermore, these cells still pose a security threat to the Iraqi capital.
