A group of ISIS fighters crossed to the western bank of the Euphrates River at the early hours of January 2 and attacked a camp of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the town of al-Siyal, according to the Syrian pro-government al-Masdar News blog.
The terrorists, who came from the remaining ISIS positions on the eastern bank of the river, stormed the camp and managed to killed more than 20 Syrian soldiers. Al-Masdar News said that most of the casualties were killed while they were sleeping.
In the last few months, ISIS launched several similar attacks on SAA positions along the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. It’s still unclear how the terrorist group is still able to cross the river despite that it is supposedly monitored by the US-led coalition, which is besieging the ISIS-held pocket there.
These attacks are likely a desperate attempt by the terrorist group to open an escape route between its positions in the Homs desert and on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River through the government-held areas.
Part of the blame for this rests upon the SAA for failure to establish OPs in depth along the river contact line.
Agreed. Sentries with overlapping observation posts with another sentry line behind them.
Tis better to be alert than dead in bed.
Poor unit training, Troops probably indoors because it is a bit cold outside. Do not post sentries because they think they are in a “safe” area. Happy new years by the way. :)
Yes this is horrible, but it reoccurs every generation. Infiltration is something that ISIS does well. They do not do well with strategic bombardment. Please bomb them.
And to you as well PZIV. It will be a year of great challenges I suspect :)
Yes, of course, if the news it’s true
Yes, they do not know much about anti guerilla warfare as well as other kinds of warfare.
Some also might think, that those have not crossed the river as well as the author of the article knows, that Eufrat can be crossed.
True, but the French scum are airlifting the headchoppers to Mali, and Algeria has just reported increased ISIS headchopper Wahhabi activity in Sahel region now.
Algeria has barred all Syrians from entering the country via its southern border with Mali and Niger to keep out members of defeated terror groups from Syria deemed to pose a security risk, a senior official said on Wednesday.Hassen Kacimi, the official in charge of migrants policy at the interior ministry, told Reuters that Syrians seeking refuge in Algeria in this way were suspected to be Salafist terrorists and were not welcome.Algeria went through years of devastating civil war with hardcore Saudi supported Wahhabi groups in the 1990s. While violence is now greatly diminished, sporadic attacks continue in isolated areas.
“We have hosted 50,000 Syrians in the past few years for humanitarian reasons,” Kacimi said, alluding to refugees from Syria’s civil war, “but we cannot accept members of armed groups fleeing from Syria when it comes to our security.”
He said around 100 had reached the southern border with the help of local armed escorts in recent weeks but were intercepted and expelled shortly after they slipped into Algeria.
Kacimi said these Syrians had transited Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan and Niger or Mali using fake Sudanese passports.
“Definitely this is a criminal network and we must be very vigilant not to allow them get into Algeria,” he said.
Algeria has been a staunch supporter of Syrian government and kept diplomatic and military relations with Syria throughout its own civil war, in which President Bashar al-Assad has largely defeated the western backed terrorists and jihadists trying to topple him. Syrians do not need visas to enter Algeria, considered an allied country.
Good luck Algeria.
Christ I fucking give up with this country
lol rekt
Turds are dying in Syria you miscreatures
One would assume the existence of of basic electronic perimeter alert alarms, were they not activated or somehow shutdown ?
Even a few tins on a string would help :)
Yes,
That’s our first agreement in 2019 Jens :)
You are to nice to ISIS. Some harder would propose their own landmines against them too.
I think they came from behind and not over the river.
One of many possibilities.
That’s harsh, “It’s still unclear how the terrorist group is still able to cross the river despite that it is supposedly monitored by the US-led coalition” the same way they managed to cross the river at Deir ez Zor city when the SAA were besieging them, they had a lot of practice there crossing the river undetected. This is an indictment of lax SAA security, it’s not like they shouldn’t have been expecting something like this to happen, and it’s not the first time either, very poor form by the SAA who should know better by now, they should’ve already put protocols in place that should have prevented this from happening. Most of them killed in their sleep, the commander responsible should be held accountable for this stuff up.
SAA and its fleee markets are very slow learners. They learn that from before they were born.
Kurds by PKK guerilla warfare has many small leaders and know, they often are in minority and have to move fast and camouflage well.
Those are by biorth much better. We have seen it well in Iraq even when Saddam was alive.
I got one word for you… Afrin.
Turks & Co took Afrin – not SAA.
Until the US is forced out of the ME, their mercenary armies ISIS al Qaeda etc will continue to kill and maim the innocent.
The SAA “second line” units continue to employ poor operations and practice. Overlapping sentries would have raised an alarm. You’d think after suffering 100,000 casualties the SAA would improve training for all their units.
To me it represent the mainproblem for Syria as well as other parts of ME and all over and not “only” soldiers.
Proposed sober changes are met by You are illoyal, terrorist, zionist, jew american and only that. No change.
Some DSinbad above is part of same thing telling again and agin, that an USA Coalision witdraw solvws all thing or most of it.
To me its the opposite, Others can come in BECAUSE the contrasts systematic has been the opposit of inclusding all inhabitant apart from very small groups, which can be handled.
We see none of that today. There is no inclding countrymnaking, not even a try.
al-masdar pro-government? when did that happen?
They always have been.
they are a cryptozionist joint, not even that well hidden, also taking on a name similar to “Al-Mayadeen” ,a media outlet that is proven as pro-Syrian.
Not the first time this happened in Latakia province a couple of night raids happened as well with the same result. SAA lacks discipline or training or a mean sergeant
Seems as though Syria is fighting a losing battle with Daesh. Both the SDF and SAA appear to be out- numbered, out-manned and out-gunned!
What a load of BS.
Well I hope I’m proved wrong but that’s what it seems at the moment!
SAA being killed while they were sleeping?…nothing new in the Syrian war…we have seen a Pantsir crew smoking cigarrets out of the truck while israel was attacking Syria….
Allegedly and from my poor memory, that crew were waiting for more missiles.
outside from the truck instead of hide it..
Good point.
” It’s still unclear how the terrorist group is still able to cross the river despite that it is supposedly monitored by the US-led coalition…”
Well, you just answered your own question there.
