ISIS Storming Strategic Government-Held Town Of Al-Sukhna At Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway (Map)

Support SouthFront

ISIS terrorists are storming the strategic government-held town of al-Sukhna located at the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highway.

The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq announced ISIS members stormed the eastern gates of the town and even entered it after they had overrun the army defense there.

According to pro-opposition sources, ISIS units fully encircled the town, but this  still has to be confirmed. Reports are also circulating that a prominent Syrian commander, General Suheil al-Hassan, is also trapped inside Sukhna.

Al-Hassan is commdner of the Syrian Arab Army Tiger Forces, one of the most efficient units of pro-government forces.

On September 28, ISIS units launched a large-scale operation against the SAA in multiple points along the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highway. So far, ISIS had captured al-Shulah and Bir-Ghabaghib and started storming al-Sukhna. (MORE DETAILS HERE)

Another tip and help from the american brothers.

Turbofan

That excuse although true is getting a bit old. As Hendrik wrote below

” How is it possible, that strong ISIS forces can approach such important command post in open desert without being noticed?”

Did they teleport? ..Even if ISIS is being helped by the US.Should’nt at least drones be monitoring the vicinity of such an important town???

Ishyrion Av

That is not hard to understand. If you look on a map, is easy to color it in red or black or yellow. But on the ground, you have terrain, deserts, cities. And a limited amount of people to cover. It is very hard to defend a long front line, but is very easy for a mobile enemy to focus all his forces in one point. Especially when you got help from the ones who are suppose to fight you. They were detected for certain, but probably SAA couldn’t do much at that time. If you noticed, all these attacks happen in the same time: ISiS, HTS, SDF, US.

Ishyrion Av

I also think that could be a strategy of Syrian-Russian-Iranian alliance. The purpose is not to make the map red, but to make Syria safe. How can you do this if ISIS is not terminated? So, what if Syrians (or maybe Russians?) allow ISIS to find “weaker” points, to attack them and then to terminate them? Honey-pots, like this General Suheil al-Hassan… If it is possible, Russians will terminate the attack by bombing the convoys from the air. If it’s not, they allow the attack because ANYWAY at some point, Syrians must terminate ISIS. And because it is known that US is saving these human plagues from the SAA and moves them somewhere else, now is better than later.

goingbrokes

As puzzles go, even bigger one is: what are these attacks for? They don’t make any sense to a normal person. Daesh won’t take any of these towns, they will be ground to dust, yes they will slow some other fronts down a bit, but it is all for nothing in the end. The only reason seemed to be to “get Suheil Al-Hassan”, just like the Russian general. Mind boggles…

Ishyrion Av

Isis plans to delay SAA so US-SDF get more ground, SAA installs honey-pots in order to terminate isis.

DJ Double D

And your point gives credence to the notion that ISIS is paid to do what they did i.e. divert SAA attention from the crucial north eastern battle, slow them down and allow the other enemies to gain.

Great news :)

Because of high demand, they get 14 well used 50yr olds, with no chance of the situation reversed anytime soon

Ishyrion Av

I always wondered where these virgins come from? 70 for each warrior. And what happens after the first contact? You have an eternity to deal with 70 non-virgins. Is that a punishment? But you are in heavens. Something is not right.

PlatosLittleSister

like your earlier comment i think its a honey pot part of angle to sell you into becoming a warrior for muhammad.

Like the Christians telling you that if you are not a christian you will burn in the lake of fire.

I believe in Christ, i hope the Creator has bigger shoulders than It is given credit for, and is not as bloodthirsty as mohammed and the jews ascribe It to be.

The East has wonderful writings as well i have found wisdom in all of humanity, i hope the creator as also

As a blissful, blessed immortal: aloof from human affairs, without worry, care, anger, or kindness – those traits appear only where there is weakness, fear, “and dependence on neighbors.” epicures

Ishyrion Av

If we reached the religion point, since I am a Christian, I can say that there is not a lake of fire. Hell is a place WITHOUT God. While we live this life, either we are believers or not, God is always with us. Never we are alone, neither when we do the most horrible crime. We don’t know the real solitude here. We are called by Him, but since we are free, we are never forced. For everyone, there is a call for Truth. Until we pass this life. After that, we get only what we have chosen, because that’s right. We get to be with Him or without Him. And I really think that a lake of fire will be much easer than an eternity without God.

Hendrik

How is it possible, that strong ISIS forces can approach such important command post in open desert without being noticed? This is again a failure of SAA intelligence. They miserably failed before in Palmyra and it looks like they didn’t learn the lesson. If Al-Hassan gets killed it would be a desaster for the SAA.

dutchnational

It is what happens when you are too focussed on other fronts. Redeploying your best elsewhere and guarding your flanks and rear with second or even third rate forces. Was a lesson of Tabqah last year, clearly forgotten.

One could also think : SAA took a gamble redeploying Tiger Forces (that IS could not counterattack) and they lost.

Turbofan

“too focussed on other fronts”

There is nothing “too” about the moves the SAA has made.Firstly the trapped civilians in Dier Zor had to be liberated (this for me was of paramount importance) and secondly the SAA couldnt just hand over the eastern part of the Euphrates to the US (an illegal entity in Syria)..

dutchnational

They redeployed AFTER the civillians in DeZ were liberated. You are quite right in stressing the relevance of liberating them, but your timeline here is at fault.

If SAA had considered the fight around DeZ to be of the utmost importance, they should not have redeployed Tiger forces.

As they did, it was either that Hama is considered to be of higher importance, or they miscalculated.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

You like many others have no concept what the Tiger forces are as various units as I have explained many times make up the much vaunted group as they are only configurations of units from all of the SAA, this should give many pause for thought in that regards.

The region around DE and also Hamas currently right now are being totally pacified of ISIS, there are 2 locations left for them in Hama and ISIS has lost vast amounts of equipment and manpower in another filed attempt as their forces continue to be decimated.

This is the honey pot strategy and highly effective in drawing in the flies as it’s employed by predatory natural habitat plant life.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

What an amateur observation you make Tiger forces are assault formations and nothing more. These units are mixed regiments and are designed for assault not defense as they are meant for fast and efficient strikes. Do you think the Kurds could learn that fighting style ,no, because they don’t like risk and being at the front.

Most of these forces are from Iraq and are their oldest serving units, looks as if CENTCOM is going to need to train more terrorists, in Amman,TransJordan.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

This is a honey pot designed to attract annoying animals to be destroyed rather than make it a slug fest, soon the SAA will be able to assume it’s borders quicker than earlier estimated. They don’t know where he is and are becoming worried about the SAA and Russian fearless generals and their planning.

Vitex

Helicopters at night again.

ISIS,THE BUTCHERS OF HUMANITY CAN STORM ALL THEY WANT BUT THEIR DAYS ARE NUMBERED IN SYRIA. THEY ARE LIKE A FIGHTER ON HIS LAST LEGS, LIKE JELLY, GETTING IN A LUCKY PUNCH OR TWO BUT STILL VERY WEAK. THE BASTARDS ARE DONE . . . JUST A MATTER OF TIME AND THAT TIME IS SOON. IF RUSSIA WANTED TO CLEAN THEM UP, THEY WOULD DO IT IN A FEW WEEKS BY BRINGING IN THEIR OWN TROOPS, BUT MOSTLY THEY LEAVE IT TO THE SYRIAN FIGHTERS WHO ARE SPREAD, AT TIMES, TOO THINLY ACROSS SYRIA. BUT THE SYRIAN ARMY WILL KICK THE BASTARDS OUT IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE. AS IN ALL WARS, THERE IS SOME RESISTANCE UNTIL THE END. AND THE END IS SOON FOR ISIS, ISRAEL, THE US OF I (THE UNITED STATES OF ISRAEL) AND THE PATHETIC SAUDIS

PlatosLittleSister

Hopefully they will get on top of this quick, time for Russian attack helicopters to do a bit of fishing.

I Despise The Carpet baggers (Saudis) i loathe the Jews(Israelhell) and their attack dog America and i am totally embarrassed to be a brit knowing that our government is owned lock stock and barrel by these Enemies to civilization.

Spot on with your comment….

dutchnational

Are you a faker as SF says in your other comment you are “not active”1 minute after commenting.

PlatosLittleSister

Not that i need to explain anything to you, however i am in a good mood, if i comment with my VPN on my comments get flagged, i am going back on my VPN now if that is o.k with you?

gold37

Time to finish this, attack Mayadin and Abu Kamal now. Flanking is what SAA is good at, keep at it.

dutchnational

As SAA lacks airborne capacity and there are no fronts at or near Mayadin and Abu Kamal, both are unlikely to happen.

Even if they had, taking a rather large force from present other frontlines might cause those frontlines to collapse, like the ones were are now talking about.

gold37

They do have a presence near T2 and on the Palmyra-DeZ highway. Once the pocket in Homs-Hama is cleared, creating another pocket along Homs-Dez could be an option, that way, they can flank. Airborne capacity is a plus but not the undermining factor, ISIS doesn’t have an air force (officially), but I do acknowledge that the militaries are built differently. Manpower is not an issue for SAA now, they need to get the soldiers on leave back to the frontlines, while keeping an eye on Idlib and the south.

dutchnational

There has been fighting this week at or near T2 as far as I know.

The Palmyra – DeZ highway is the one collapsing right now, so no reserves there and that is exactly my point. No reserves.

gold37

The ball is in SAA’s court, this mini offensive would end like the last 3 offensives in Idlib by Al Qaeda, a distraction. DeZ-Palmyra is not their only supply line to DeZ.

Graeme Rymill

It is their main one however

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

There has always been fighting as this is a crucial pumping station the US needs , and while all these distractions are going on here, the SDF will be flanked and stopped ,so much for underestimating the SAA.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The SAA has limited airborne capacity as they are still being trained and prepped for the new aircraft they are beginning to receive as their MIG 29 fighters are being upgraded with new missile systems and new SU 25SM3 will be ready for when they are fully trained to use them.

Lilian Turin

Why Al-Masdnar is saying offensive has been repelled? what sources South Front has?

gold37

This was probably prepared a few hours ago. SF is run by a limited budget compared to Al-Masdar.

FromBehindEnemyLines

SANA also says that attack was repelled at “al-Shoula and Kabajib area”. http://sana.sy/en/?p=114788

Hopefully we can all see what the problem is with quoting as fact from an “ISIS news agency”.

Graeme Rymill

Almasdar does state that Kabajib was initially captured based on a report of its own correspondent:

https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/breaking-isis-retakes-town-palmyra-deir-ezzor-highway-syrian-army-trouble/

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They relying on old sources as this was prepared before anything was coming back on any reports as no one knew what to release, they should have been guarded in commenting though.

Alejandro Calero

I’m sure that the population of Saudi Arabi have decreased at least in 20% since the start of the conflict.

I wish..Rats breed fast

Lol. do you really believe the rich saudis are fighting here and in fact they are mostly pro-assad. This is something people don’t know.

Alot of people are misinformed these days

electron

RF military leadership should be ashamed! Not a single additional aircraft deployed; nothing.

Joe Doe

DUring the SYria war SAA learn very little about military tactics, planning and intelligence gathering is almost none existing

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Joe just shut up you have no concept of what is going on and you like most respond with emotion, battlefield planning and coordination falls upon the field ranks to be able to adapt the plan and carry out the necessary maneuvers in order to gain the objective as routes can be changed and objectives still achieved.

kraaiiii

the road is already under control, al-Sukhna unclear yet https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/breaking-syrian-army-annihilates-isis-reopens-deir-ez-zor-highway/

Mountains

Mass SAA defection is being reported these days and they are forcing over 40s year old men into the army by force and arresting them to enlist.

Seems as if the poor syrian soldier has seen some light. many refused to be deployed in the idlib front which they viewed as a 100% certain death anyone who is deployed there on that frontline.

They are getting paid peanuts and put into the frontlines. They are not defecting to other groups but just leaving the country ASAP.

SAA recruiting system is cruel. They have no other option then to flee syria or face to be deployed into a certain death frontline in a no ending war

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Why do you report false news , besides the only ones arresting people to serve are the PKK/SDF . Their recruitment and cruel training tactics are abhorrent if you are not a Kurd and the US seemingly condones this , with their observers nearby. Well these are the hard truths Porky about your beloved SDF and more revelations to come in the future, so, deal with it!

DJ Double D

I just got news from Shoula town: Bad news – too many dead bodies lying on the streets. So many on military uniforms. Oh God, please eradicate these monsters called ISIS from the face of the earth. How can they use your name to do so much evil things?

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Shoula was cleared those are just Iraqi Baathist army uniforms have seen them before , different camo pattern. Don’t jump to hysterics as these are the left over from Iraqi Army deserters of Baathists they are easily paid mercenaries and were sponsored by the US and still to this day.

DJ Double D

Hope you are right.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They had on the earliest forms of the ISIS uniform which was made in Florida by a hardcore Islamist couple, who were responsible for the Nightclub shooting there it was a false flag event.

Suheil probably left with his helicopter lmao
