On February 28, ISIS branch in Nigeria, the Islamic State-West Africa Province (ISWAP), ambushed two convoys of the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno.
The first convoy came under attack on Pulka-Gowza road. ISWAP terrorists blew up the convoy with three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as it was passing on the road then proceeded to target it with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.
ISIS’s news agency, Amaq, claimed that 15 service members of the NAF were killed or wounded. The agency shared photos of the ambush on March 1.
ISWAP terrorists ambushed the second convoy near the town of Malam Fatori. The terrorists hit the convoy with three IEDs, allegedly killing and wounding 13 service members of the NAF. Later, the terrorists targeted reinforcements sent by the armed forces with a fourth IED. Three more service members were supposedly killed.
The terrorist group’s influence in Borno have been growing for more than a year now, especially in the areas bordering Lake Chad. The situation is not better in the nearby state of Yobe.
Nigerian government forces conduct operations against ISWAP cells on a regular basis. Despite of this, the terrorist group appears to be getting stronger and bolder.
Wonder which ISIS it was? French, UK, US or Israeli?
