On November 17, ISIS’ Amaq news agency published photos from a recent attack by the terrorist group’s wing in Western Africa, the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP), that took place the northeastern Nigerian province of Borno.

The attack, which occurred on November 13, targeted a base of the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) in the town of Askira Uba. ISWAP fighters managed to storm the base following heavy clashes, in which 13 Nigerian soldiers were allegedly killed.

Before withdrawing from Askira Uba, the terrorists clashed with reinforcements sent by the NAF. A brigade commander and at least three soldiers were killed.

During the attack, ISWAP terrorists captured a Canadian-made Isotrex Phantom 2 and an Austrian-made Saurer 4K 4FA armored personnel carriers. The terrorists set the Phantom 2 on fire, along with another unidentified vehicle.

ISWAP cells stepped up their operations in northeastern Nigeria, mainly in the provinces of Borno and Yobe, in the last few months.

Nigerian government forces operate nonstop against the terrorists group. However, very little have been achieved, thus far. The group have been spreading its radical ideology in the northeastern region with much success.
