On September 29, Jaysh al-Nasr, one of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups, claimed that it has repelled an attack of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on its positions in Zilaqiat area in the northern Hama countryside. However, Syrian pro-government sources denied that the SAA attacked the area.
Jaysh al-Nasr’s claims came hours only after Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a new ceasefire fire agreement in Idlib and Hama governorate will start on September 29.
Furthermore, the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham(HTS)-linked news agency Iba’a claimed that Russian warplanes conducted airstrikes on Idlib city and Lataminah, Jisr al-Shughur and Harem towns in Idlib countryside.
In a separated development, Liwa Shuhada al-Ghab announced its defection from HTS in an official statement. Liwa Shuhada al-Ghab said that its leadership took this decision after еру failed HTS attack in the northern Hama countryside.
According to the statement the main motives for the decision were that HTS doesn’t care or pay attention to the high numbers of fighters who were died or injured in the attack. Furthermore, the statement said that HTS doesn’t also care about the lives of civilians.
Liwa Shuhada al-Ghab is the first unit of the HTS that acknowledge the large loses of HTS in the last attack in the northern Hama countryside. It’s believed that HTS and its allies lost between 300 and 800 fighters.
