On December 10, the Russian military raised Russian flag on the southern outskirts of the town of Maryinka located on the western outskirts of the Donetsk city agglomeration. The Ukrainian military admits that they are retreating in the town and in the areas nearby.
Another Russian flag is flying in the ruins of the buildings in the west of Polygraphic Street, in the south-western part of the city. The street is located on a small hill, as a result, Russian further offensive in the western districts of Shakhterskaya and Kashtanova streets will be easier.
The flag was reportedly raised by stormtroopers from the 2nd motorized rifle battalion of the 103rd regiment:

On December 1, Russian servicemen also raised their flag on the most south-western house of the town. Another flag was seen flying in the western part of Maryinka. LINK
Despite the ongoing Russian advance, some Ukrainian forces are still present on the western outskirts. They are in control of about 3% of the territory of the town, mainly in the ruins to the north of the water reservoir along Ivan Franko street. However, Ukrainian sources confirm Russian advance on the north-western outskirts too. Druzhby avenue is under the Russian control from where they advance westward along Ivan Franko and Lesya Ukrainka streets.
Russian forces are now strengthening their positions in the town and continue the mop up operation, destroying Ukrainian forces hiding in the ruins:
Amid their advance in the western part of Maryinka, Russian forces are expanding the zone of their control to the south. According to preliminary reports, Russian forces launched assault on Novomikhailovka and reached the outskirts of the village.

In their turn, Ukrainian forces are retreating to the west. The main part of the Ukrainian grouping in Maryinka has withdrew to the village of Georgievka, where they are straightening their new line of defense.

its been uninhabited for a year. i genuinely wonder who will get the contracts to rebuild towns like this.
grozny was flattened after the chechen wars and was rebuild pretty quick. the kerch bridge to crimea, that the west said the russians were not capable of such a big project, also went up pretty quick. they built a high speed train from moscow to st petersburg. so the russians can do big construction projects.
