The night of May 10, 2024, was marked by a sharp escalation on the Russian-Ukrainian border. Apparently, the Russian army launched offensive in the new direction, in the Kharkiv region.
Zelensky officially announced the beginning of the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, saying that although the Armed Forces of Ukraine were waiting for such attacks, they do not know what reserves the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are ready to use in this direction. Ukrainian military sources acknowledge the loss of large territories. Ukrainian servicemen complain that despite the hysteria of Kiev, which shouted about the upcoming Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, the AFU units could not contain the onslaught on the border.

On the evening of May 10, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation liberated at least four border villages and more than 40 square kilometers of territory in the north of the Kharkiv region. Both Russian and Ukrainian sources confirm Russian control in the villages of Strelechye, Krasnoe, Pilnaya and Borisovka. The mop up operations with the support of artillery and aviation are ongoing in the captured areas.
In the early morning, Russian forces began a massive bombardment of military positions and various facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the border areas. The Ukrainian military targets were pounded by Russian artillery, strikes of the Iskander missiles and airstrikes by the Russian Aerospace Forces, which have not subsided all day.
The Russian military is conducting devastating shelling with the aim of massively destroying the infrastructure and reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to ensure the further advance of Russian troops. Russian pinpoint strikes are destroying bridges and crossings over local rivers in order to limit the movement and supply of military equipment and logistical resources of the Ukrainian forces.
The satellite imagery confirm the destruction of the bridge over the Seversky Donets at the Old Saltovka dam in the Kharkiv region. This bridge was blown up during the retreat of the Russian Armed Forces back in 2022, but the Ukrainian military restored the strategically important facility and actively used it to transport military personnel and heavy weapons. Destruction of the bridge disrupts the logistics of the Ukrainian army in this direction.
A video shot by a Russian reconnaissance drone also confirms that a pinpoint Russian airstrike destroyed a bridge over the Volchya River near the village of Zybino.
The footage confirmed the first defeat of the FrankenSAM air defense system, which is the Buk complex, adapted for launching RIM-7 Sea Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles of the US production, near the village of Cherkasskaya Lozovaya, Kharkiv region. Ukrainian troops for the first time used the Frankencam hybrid air defense system, which consists of elements of Soviet and Western weapons in early 2024.
Battles are ongoing in the areas of the settlements of Gatyshche, Borisovka, Goptovka, Krasnoe, Pylne, Zelenoe, Strelechye, Kudiyevka, where Russian forces in small groups conduct reconnaissance by combat.
According to Ukrainian military sources, up to 4-5 battalions of the Russian Armed Forces are operating on a front line 10 km wide and 3 km deep. Despite the fact that small forces are involved, the Russian army has significant reserves of the North group for their entry into battle. Most likely, they will be put into battle in the sector of the front where the advanced groups will be able to break through the main line of Ukrainian defense.
In their turn, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are sending reserve units to strengthen the defense in the Kharkiv region. Strengthening is necessary in view of the ongoing losses. The first servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were captured in the Kharkov direction :

There are no active assaults and the advance of Russian units to a great depth yet. At the moment, Russian forces continue to inflict massive fire damage, followed by further assault operations.
It is quite possible that this operation may become the first in a series of strikes aimed at creating the buffer zone that prevents shelling of the Russian borderlands, including Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk regions. Occupation of the border areas will certainly reduce the ability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to shell the border areas of the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian military is forced to transfer units from other directions, where Kiev is already rapidly losing control of one stronghold after another.

surely these stories are false! the russians were defeated at kiev in 2022. all their armour was destroyed, they were reduced to using conscripts and prisoners who wouldn’t fight, weren’t fed, and all were either killed or surrendered to the rampant ukrainian armed forces. my understanding is that the russians were reduced to using museum pieces to fight. javelins, and bayraktars and abrams and leopards just proved too much for the russians.
