This map provides a general look at the military situation in Iraqi on August 3, 2017. The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units and security forces are conducting a security operation agains ISIS cells west of the Mosul-Baghdad highway prior to launching the advance on Tal Afar.

Who are the assyrian forces?
Christians, Yazides from Sinjar mostly.
I thought the yazides were a sort of kurdish tribe?never really looked into these things, i only heard of yazides when Isis was chasing them on the mountainside,shows how ignorant i am i suppose? Ill do some searching now thanks.
The Kurds have been trying to destroy Yezidi culture for a long time and force them to be like Kurds as they do with other smaller groups. They have even been forcing Syriacs (Orthodox Christians)to become Kurds even as far as forcing some to become Sunni to function in their twisted Workers party world in Syria.
So in this little sideshow to what is a whole great big opera, the kurds are the ‘baddies’ as in the yazidis are a small(ish) ethnic group trying to exist in their own little way without imposing their religion or politics on anyone, and the kurds who we have been lead to believe are this all inclusive equality minded and trustworthy grouping are really just like a lot of the islamist groups forcing their will and religeon and politics on the other minor players in the arena? Is this the whole kurdish side? Is there a difference between iraqi and syrian kurds? Are they all in this fight together? I can see we may be finding out a lot more about the kurds in the coming months so would be good to get an idea of the ins and outs of their situation/goals and who and where they all are in all this. Maybe an idea for SF in future?.
The kurds split into factions that they ally with. Syrian Kurds in the west (Afrin) worked with FSA/Terrorists at the begining of the Syrian war then changed sides and co-operate with Syrian Government mainly, still have a few links to FSA by allowing them to retreat to their area when Aleppo was liberated last year. Even trading Syrian solders to get killed by terrorist so other Kurds can be released.
The Kurds in eastern Syria and Western Iraq are more aligned together, to them the border does not exist. PKK/PYD or SDF, whatever they choose to call themselves.
Afrin Kurds and ‘SDF’ are target number one for Turkey.
The Kurds in eastern Iraq are happy to work with Turkey and sell them oil, they even allowed Turkish bases into Iraqi territory, about 8 are known. That is because Turkey claims Mosul are as theirs.
At the end of the day, the Kurds have their own differences and they are not to be grouped as an entity. What ties them together is they want a portion of Syria, Iraq, Turkey and Iran for themselves and name it Kurdistan (yes, there are Kurds in northern Iran too).
The Kurds to try to claim many different groups and have been known to be no different than the Afghani in destroying previous cultures artifacts whom they are not related to in anyway. Kurds over time claim they are of different cultures yet it gets proven they are not similar to Ashkenazi Jews claiming to be from the biblical time Jews. This all gets confusing since they don’t even know their background other than many came with the Mongols hordes.
It’s not ignorance, its just complicated. Yazidi’s are almost ethnically Kurds (based on dressing, similarity in language and food) but their faith is different, hence why their ethnicity is different, and they don’t intermarry. Kurds in general are Sunni religiously. Yazidi’s feel safer with Christians (manly Assyrians) because they are a minority when it comes to religion. In this region, religion plays a part in who you associate with. Some (not all) Sunni’s sold the Yazidi’s out when ISIS came, including some Kurds.

LAST MONTH SAA AND IRAQI FORCE MET WITH EACH OTHER ON BOREDER NEAR ALL TANAF BT NOW ACCORDING TO THE MAP ISIL HAS PUSHED BACK RAQI FORCE TO JORDAN BORDER WITH HIT AND RUN TACTIC EVERYDAY KILLING MANY SOLDIER. PMU AND IRAQI SODIER HAS TO START BIG OPERATION TO WIPE ISIL FROM SYRIA BORDER WITH IRAQ AND ALSO FROM RUTBAH CITY THEY SHOLD LAUNCH OPERATION TO REACH NORTH OF THE BORDER AND MEET SAA. ASAP
OR IRAQI PMU SHPULD START SAME TACTIC OF HIT AND RUN TACTI AGAINST ISIL IN THAT BORDER REGION NEAR SYRIA OF ALTANAF NIGHT RAID OR SPECAIL OPEARTION IT IMPORTANT .
