A brief overview of the recent developments in Libya:
- On December 28, videos showing Turkish-backed militants from Syria on the frontline near Tripoli appeared online;
- A Government of National Accord (GNA) field commander claimed that GNA forces had shot down a Egyptian Rafale warplane near Misrata;
- Clashes between the Libyan National Army (LNA) and GNA forces continue near the Tripoli airport;
- Clashes between LNA and GNA forces continue near the Police Academy.
Well I think the LNA are in very serious trouble now, they (Haftar’s forces) should have took Sirte and pressured Misrata months ago and stopped Turkey/Qatar from saving the Tripoli Sarraj, GNA backside with their reinforcements, but of course nothing happened.
The war is now coming to Tobruk over the next 6 months.
I don’t think LNA could have taken Misrata – this is, and has been since 2012 the real heartland and strong hold of the largest militia groups – it is very well defended and has on ground support from Italian, Turkish, Qatari, and until recently both US and British “observers” Any ground offensive by LNA would have been met with NATO air – repeat of what happened in 2011 BUT at least LNA should have cut the coastal road from Tripoli
Egypt should have invaded long time ago. They should have captured and incorporated into Egypt eastern Libya from Sidra down to the borders with Chad. At least that.
good job lna
LNA wasted six months politicking and organizing and failed to take imperative objectives in southern and eastern districts of Tripoli – LNA failed to concentrate forces for a decisive offensive and now maybe too late, Sarraj regime with Turkish proxies have constructed layered defense lines, blocked by berms, shipping containers, mines, re-inforced buildings etc..and covered by heavy weapons and indirect fire support – why in hell LNA did not attack the dis-organized gangster militia rabble in May/June when the defenses were weak I don’t know. Make no mistake, Turkey is in this boots and all – expect close air support/strikes and naval gun support, even missiles from submarines – LNA still can carry the day but only if it stops pussyfooting around hoping enemy will negotiate or melt away – cut the land links to/from Misrata and bomb the air base, ditto Ma’itiqah and Sidi Bilal port – ATM the enemy has FULL use of these facilities for Chrissakes !!
