A brief overview of the recent developments in Nagorno-Karabakh:
- As of January 2, a total of 46,778 people returned to Karabakh with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers;
- As of January 2, Russia reported that more than 400 hectares of land and about 157 kilometers of roads were cleared from mines and IEDs and 16647 explosive objects were found and destroyed;
- As of January 2, Russian military medics provided assistance to 1,044 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, including 131 children;
- As of January 2, 1145 bodies have been retrieved from the battle zone, according to the State Service of Emergency Situations of Artsakh;
- One January 1, an Azerbaijani soldier died in the Fuzuli area due to a land mine blast;
- One January 1, an Azerbaijani soldier died in the Qubadli area due to a land mine blast.
Armenia has suffered pretty high level of casualties in the short one sided war. The spokeswoman for the Armenian Ministry of Health Alina Nikogossian announced that 3,330 Armenian soldiers were killed during the Karabakhwar from September 27th to November 10th.
Nikogossian said that “by January 1, the forensic medical teams examined 3,330 corpses of the soldiers who were killed in Karabakh to determine the identities of the bodies and identify their owners. Since the beginning of the war, 1,441 samples from the bodies have been taken and there are 871 samples in the search stage.”
She stated that specialists from the Scientific and Practical Center for Forensic Medicine have identified 436 bodies, including 66 of them, in the past ten days. On a relative comparative note, it would like 400,000 US dead. Vietnam only killed 58,000 US personnel and ended Nixon with the country in upheaval. However, in Armenia Pashinian is very much still in power with no repercussions for such a horrendous defeat and losing 40% of its territory.
Frankly, this is mind boggling.
