The only way to acquire leverage is to conquer Nicolaev and Odessa. And I really don’t see that happening.
I dont think Russia has the manpower and resources to do so as of current. They will most likely consolidate the current holdings maybe the 300K manpower will liberate the last part of donetsk. And taking odessa might not even be the actual goal of this conflict. Russia will most likely take the donetsk Luhansk regions along with the kherson landbridge to the Crimea. that is what the region that has most ethnic russians but is also vital for russias defense against nato expansionism if ukraine were to join the EU and Nato. The US has wet dreams of taking crimea and porting a fleet there. Putting europe on a constant 5 minute MAD death clock. this is what russia wants to avoid. By taking this land bridge and buffer in the south russias position in the blacksea will remain stable and dominant. Nato wont be able to port a rival fleet close to russias borders.

As ukrop units get ground down this winter it should get progressively easier. The geography to Odessa with the various rivers and gorges btwn Odessa and Nikolaev makes it challenging though.

However as soon as Russia advances in that direction the Ukranian grain wont be exported to north africa and the middle east leading to a huge foodshortage and massive exodus humanitarian crisis that will flood europe. Russia took its moral responsibility and has given Ukraine the space to export the grain even at the expanse of their own security as the USA is using this time and port to rearm the ukros with advanced weapon systems. Russia has a strategic position from were it can close off Ukraines naval lines at any time. They might advance in the odessa direction once the mobilization is complete it is a possibility. By then most of this years grain supply might also have been exported so a humanitarian food crisis can be averted. Russia has taken its moral responsibility to the world by allowing ukraine to export a good amount of the grain to the world markets. The psychopaths from the world economic forum would love to plunge us in a global food crisis, millions of muslims fleeing to europe out of hunger and food shortage its their wet dream and they would love to blame it and everything on russia despite they are the ones who caused this conflict in the first place by constantly threatening russia with nato expansion at its borders.
