The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on October 26 that the Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on several formations of Kiev forces in the Kursk direction.
In its daily briefing, the ministry said that Ukraine’s 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, as well as the 112th and 129th territorial defense brigades took heavy losses near the settlements of Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka, and Plyokhovo.
The Sever Group of Forces also repelled four counter-attacks by Kiev forces close to the settlements of Kamyshovka, Novoivanovka, and Pogrebki, according to the ministry.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 30 troops killed and wounded and five armored fighting vehicles. Seven AFU servicemen surrendered,” it said.
The ministry added that a Ukrainian attempt to break through the Russian border near the settlements of Novy Put was foiled.
“The AFU losses amounted to up to ten troops killed and wounded and one Swedish-made CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle. One AFU serviceman surrendered,” the ministry continued.
In addition, the ministry said that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 47th, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 17th National Guard Brigade, as well as the 103rd, 112th, 129th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Aleksandriya, Viktorovka, Gogolevka, Guyevo, Daryino, Zamostye, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kazachaya Loknya, Kolmakov, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Mirny, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, Pravda, Sverdlikovo, Sudzha, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
Other strikes targeted the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which is located right on the border with Kursk, according to the ministry.
The strikes hit the reserves of the 41st, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, as well as the 103rd, 107th, 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Alekseyevka, Basovka, Vladimirovka, Zhuravka, Miropolye, and Pavlovka.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 350 troops and 14 units of armored hardware, namely, four infantry fighting vehicles, including one Swedish-made CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle, 10 armored fighting vehicles as well as two American-made HIMARS MLRS launchers and two transport-loading vehicles, three mortars, and six motor vehicles. Eight AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
Separately, Russian media released video footage showing some of the strikes that hit Kiev forces in Kursk and Sumy in recent days.
Kiev forces attacked Kursk last August. The Russian military is currently conducting a counter-attack. So far, nearly half of the settlements initially occupied by Ukrainian troops have been liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 26,900 troops, 177 tanks, 97 infantry fighting vehicles, 105 armored personnel carriers, 1,013 armored fighting vehicles, 692 motor vehicles, 229 artillery guns, 40 launchers, including 11 American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, nine air defense systems, seven transport-loading vehicles, 57 electronic warfare stations, 11 counter-battery radars, three aerial radars, 22 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and three armored recovery vehicle.
