On the night of August 28th, the Ukrainian military attempted drone and missile strikes on the Russian territory in several directions.

One of the UAVs was shot down in the town of Lyubertsi in the Moscow region. As a result of the attack, no casualties nor damage were reported. Moscow’s Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports temporarily did not accept flights. In total, 10 aircraft left for alternate airfields, the Federal Air Transport Agency reported.

According to unconfirmed reports, at night, Ukrainian kamikaze drones targeted a military airfield in the Bryansk region. All UAVs were shot down by the Russian air defense forces. There were no damage and no injuries.

The day before, adviser to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine claimed that Ukrainian counterintelligence attacked Russian military airfield in the Kursk region. According to him, four planes were destroyed. Ukrainian sources on the same day declared the alleged destruction of four Su-30, one MiG-29 aircraft and a surface-to-air missile system. The AFU reportedly attacked the Khalino military airfield in the Kursk region with cardboard kamikaze drones SYPAQ. Kiev received such drones from Australia for humanitarian missions.

The Crimean peninsula remains one of the main targets for Ukrainian strikes. On August 28, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that Ukrainian cruise missile was shot down over the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea. The local authorities also claimed that two Ukrainian reconnaissance drones were shot down, when they were monitoring the situation on the Crimean peninsula.

These were reportedly Portugese-made Tekever AR3 and AR5 UAVs. One of them  took off in the Mykolaiv region and flew through the Kherson region. It was shot down by Russian Pantsir system north of Yevpatoria. The second UAV reportedly took off in the Odessa region and entered the airspace of the Crimean peninsula in the area of the Cape Tarkhankut. It was shot down southwest of Razdolny.

The ongoing reconnaissance operations indicate that the Ukrainian military does not lose hope to strike more targets in Crimea. On August 23, tha Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to destroy Russian air defence system deployed near the Cape Tarkhankut. LINK

Miraculously, the MSM admitted that the Ukrainian strikes in the Russian air areas are coordinated by NATO intelligence. Operators of Ukrainian drones attacking the territory of Russia receive information about radars and air defense from Western partners, the Economist reported. According to a source close to the developers of one of the models of Ukrainian drones, only “about 35-40%” of Ukrainian UAVs reach the targeted area. The Economist also reported, citing a source “close to the commander-in-chief of Ukraine,” that “Russia deprived Ukraine of the initial advantage in tactical drones, which was three to one.” According to the source, the parties now have “parity”.

Meanwhile, the Russian military continues preventing the US reconnaissance UAVs that are collecting data on the Russian military from entering the Russian airspace. On August 27, the crew of the Russian Su-30 fighter forced another MQ-9A Reaper reconnaissance UAV of the US Air Force to turn around over the Black Sea.

This is not the first such incident in the area. On August 5, the Russian military thwarted another reconnaissance operation of US MQ-9A Reaper drone over the Black Sea. In March, another MQ-9A Reaper drone crashed after approaching Russian Su-27 fighters. LINK After the incident, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin held talks. The first said that the flights of American drones near Crimea are “provocative” and create prerequisites for an escalation of the situation in the Black Sea zone, and the second said that the United States “will continue to fly and act wherever international law allows.”
