New conflicts are emerging in Syria, with a rise in internal sectarian tensions, a new wave of American expansion and Israel taking action to counter Turkey’s growing influence in the war-torn country.
The instability of the country became evident early in March, when a government crackdown on so-called “remnants” of the Assad regime in western Syria claimed the lives of more than 1,600 civilians, mostly members of the Alawite minority. Amid the killings, some 10,000 civilians took refuge at Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base close to the city of Jableh.
On March 25, reports revealed that Russian forces expanded their control around Khmeimim, entering at least three nearby towns, Qubaisiya, Bakhdarmo, and Khirbet al-Ashar, to secure the base and the civilians taking refuge there.
Later on March 27, a series of strikes hit the Minet el-Beida military port and the adjacent 110th Brigade base on the coast. The strikes were blamed on Israel, but the country didn’t take responsibility.
More escalation was reported in western Syria between March 28 and 31 with Russian air defenses intercepting several mysterious drones over Khmeimim and the naval base in Tartus port.
Separately, recent reports revealed attempts by the United States to expand its influence to the outskirts of the capital, Damascus, in southern Syria
On March 30, fighters from the U.S.-Backed Syrian Free Army (SFA) were spotted in the town of al-Dumayr, which is located some 35 kilometers to the northeast of Damascus. Later on March 31, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that a U.S. force combined by fighters from the SFA and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces had taken control of the nearby Al-Dumayr Air Base.
Meanwhile, Israel appears to be on the course for a heated confrontation with Turkey over Syria.
On April 1, the Middle East Eye revealed Turkish plans to deploy air defenses and combat drones at the T4 Air Base and the nearby Palmyra military airport in central Syria, which were both attacked by Israel twice during March.
The Israeli response came over the night of April 2 and 3 with a wave of strikes targeting the T4 in addition to Hama military airport and a military research facility near Damascus. At least four, allegedly including three Turkish engineers, were killed in the strikes.
Amid the strikes Israeli troops also clashed with local fighters near the towns of Nawa and Tasil in southern Syria. Nine fighters were killed in the confrontation.
All in all, it is clear that the war in Syria didn’t end with the fall of the Assad regime. The new phase of the war will be marked by more apparent foreign interventions, notably by Israel and Turkey. It will be very difficult for the country’s Islamist-led interim government to navigate these emerging conflicts without getting involved.

many conflicts in burgerland lgbt dystopia cuz we all mean bitter sexually repressed puritans
the us and israel team aren’t sharing all plans with aj jolani . he is here only to be used like a toy he is . the flood of mercenaries go where they told to amplify sectarian divisions on purpose . this will keep the population punch drunk while the more plunder is awarded to greater isreal . turkey will get a share for thier part . the us gets a new air base . israel gets damascus . jordan beware !
it was a big mistske and failure from putin and assad as the islamists were nearly fully defeated and concentrsted only in idlib, not to bomb them all to hell back then.
amerikunts are stupid
the whole world is stupid enough to let jews run their governments
that will never happen in china. the ‘jews of asia’ are a much smarter entity than these vicious khazar inbreds.
they should never have been allowed to leave aleppo for idlib, they had been smashed in allepo.
israil will invade the syrian capital and problems will be fixed
let’s hope for turkish-israeli war. it could be fun to watch.
it would be the best thing that could happen. but i highly doubt it. turkey so far has been complicit with israels goals in syria. they toghter destroyed syria and erdogan is fueling israel with azerbaijan oil enabling the idf to geno gaza
