On October 21, a photo showing a completely new version of Russia’s UMPK [Russian: УМПК; Унифицированный модуль планирования и коррекции, Unified gliding and correction module] kit surfaced online.
Unlike the original UMPK kit which featured a basic design centered around a single piece with both the wings and control fins that can be clipped in on to any Soviet-era bomb weighing 500 kg or less, the new kit includes two separate wings and control fins sections specifically designed to fit into newer FAB-500-series bombs.
Despite the complete redesign, the new UMPK kit appears to have retained the same jamming-resistant GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system.
Reports suggesting that the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) begin fielding an upgraded version of the UMPK first emerged last June, when guided glide bombs began to hit Ukrainian military targets located more than a 100 kilometers away from the frontline in the special military operations zone. The original version of the kit is known to have a range of around 80 kilometers only.
This improvement was apparently achieved by refining the aerodynamic features of the kit, most notably by increasing the wing area.
Ukrainian reports from earlier this week suggest that UMPK kits were also being upgraded with miniature jet engines to achieve a range of up to 200 kilometers or even more. So far, there is no evidence of such a version. The kit seen in the new photo is clearly not equipped with any propulsion system.
There have also been reports of a UMPK version with a rocket booster, but evidence of its presence is yet to surface online.
It’s worth noting that the VKS has been also using an enlarged version of the basic UMPK kit with the same single piece design to convert massive FAB-1500 and FAB-3000 bombs into guided glide munitions.
The UMPK and its variants have proven to be a real game changer in the course of the special military operation. The system allowed Russian warplanes to engage Ukrainian military targets with high accuracy from a safe distance, all at a low cost, reported to be under $25,000 pre kit.

obviously russia is stringing nato taco along, the steadily increasing numbers of game changing russian weapons are not meant to freeze the frontlines but to freeze the ukrainian energy infrastructure and their aa*ss back into the stone age.
most eu politicians will happily divert all their nations’ gas to ukraine. for free.

not sure about that. the photo clearly shows a strap-on tail of more than half the lenght of the bomb. so plenty of space for some sort of propulsion system.
